KAWS Expands ‘MONSTERS’ Vinyl Figure Range with All-Black Collection

As a long-time admirer of KAWS and his unique blend of pop culture references with a touch of nostalgia, I must say that this latest MONSTERS series is another brilliant addition to his impressive portfolio. Having followed his career for years now, it’s fascinating to see how he continues to reinvent classic icons while maintaining his signature style.

The Halloween season has arrived, and artist KAWS is extending his less-scary “MONSTERS” series with a fresh lineup of all-black vinyl figures. This new collection is an extension of the cereal-themed cartoons he created for General Mills in 2022. The latest MONSTERS figures share the same structure as the set KAWS released in March this year, but instead of the vibrant colors from the initial series, they opt for a sleek monochrome design.

In this collection, you’ll find iconic cereal characters such as Frute Brute, Count Chocula, Franken Berry, and Boo Berry. Each stands between 11 to 13 inches tall. While they are primarily monochromatic, a key sign that these figures are part of a KAWS collaboration can be seen in their eyes, where the artist’s distinctive “X” logo has replaced a standard pupil. This characteristic harks back to his renowned Companion figure, which was inspired by Mickey Mouse.

These freshly unveiled “MONSTERS” figurines come out at a time when the artist, known for his constant activity, is particularly busy. Not only is his work being showcased alongside some of Andy Warhol’s iconic pieces in the “KAWS + Warhol” exhibition at Pittsburgh’s Andy Warhol Museum, but it also highlights the dark undertones prevalent in both artists’ works. Additionally, he has recently launched a “BIG MOON” lamp, inspired by his latest “KAWS: HOLIDAY” installation.

Grab each of the new MONSTERS figures via the KAWSONE webstore now for $320 USD a pop.
