As a gamer with a soft spot for action-packed films, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon witnessing the trailer for ‘Love Hurts’. With the crew behind some of my favorite action flicks like ‘John Wick’ and ‘Bullet Train’, this movie promises to deliver a thrilling ride. Ke Huy Quan, who won our hearts in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, is back with his stunt choreography skills, playing Marvin Gable – a mild-mannered realtor hiding a dark secret.

87North Productions, the team behind movies like John Wick, Bullet Train, Violent Night, and Nobody, are returning with more action-packed excitement in the first trailer for veteran stunt coordinator JoJo Eusebio’s directorial debut titled Love Hurts.

As an avid gamer, I can’t help but feel exhilarated to once again showcase my action choreography prowess in the character of Marvin Gable. This seemingly successful and reserved realtor in Milwaukee’s suburbs is hiding a sinister secret that unfolds when a mysterious crimson envelope filled with two cryptic messages – “Love Hurts” and “Hiding ain’t Living” – unexpectedly arrives at his doorstep.

It’s revealed that the letter was penned by Rose (Ariana DeBose), a former accomplice in crime whom Marvin thought he had left for dead long ago. Her unexpected reappearance compels the realtor to once more venture into a questionable realm filled with hitmen, deceit, dangerous battlefields, and the occasional house showing. With his ruthless crime lord sibling, Knuckles (Daniel Wu), hot on his trail, “Marvin finds himself grappling with the ghosts of his past and choices he never fully resolved,” as stated in the synopsis.

In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Quan admitted that when he was initially offered the role, he was perplexed and proposed Jason Statham as an alternative. Fortunately, the producers remained steadfast and convinced him, who viewed Marvin as a unique action hero, unlike those seen in recent decades. According to Quan, “He isn’t afraid to be vulnerable; he doesn’t come off as tough until necessary. That’s a fresh perspective on the genre.
