In an exciting turn of events, I find myself eagerly anticipating the dance-off between Keanu Reeves and Ana de Armas in the upcoming film, “Ballerina” – a spin-off from the action-packed “John Wick” series. Interestingly enough, this on-screen confrontation seems to have echoes of the past for these two talented artists, as they’ve squared off against each other in another movie a full decade ago.
2015 saw the pairing of Reeves and de Armas in the Lionsgate thriller “Knock Knock”. Alongside them was Lorenza Izzo, under the direction of Eli Roth (known for films like “Borderlands” and “Thanksgiving”). This year, both actors will reunite as Reeves makes a cameo in de Armas’ upcoming film “Ballerina”, which is a spinoff from “John Wick”. As fans eagerly await the release of this movie, they can now enjoy watching “Knock Knock” starting June 1st, as it becomes available on a streaming platform.
The movie “Knock Knock” draws its inspiration from the 1977 film titled “Death Game.” Eli Roth collaborated with Guillermo Amoedo and Nicolas Lopez in writing the screenplay. In this thriller, Keanu Reeves portrays Evan Webber, a family man who is working and undergoing rehabilitation at home while his family enjoys their vacation elsewhere. When left alone, Evan receives an unexpected visit from two young women – Genesis (Izzo) and Bel (de Armas). Initially posing as needing help, these visitors soon reveal a chilling secret motive once they enter Evan’s house.
Some Say Knock Knock Is Underrated After Most Critics Weren’t Kind
Despite being primarily a suspenseful movie, “Knock Knock” was recognized for its comedic aspects, occasionally delving into dark humor. Unlike many movies of its time, it left critics perplexed upon its 2015 release, as reflected in its 37% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, some critics did find it entertaining, and the film has since gained a following who argue that it’s been underrated by critics.
Following their collaboration on “Knock Knock”, Reeves and de Armas came together again. In the year 2016, they shared the screen in the thriller “Exposed”. Their next project together, “Ballerina”, will showcase a unique storyline. The movie is slated for release on June 6th.
In her recent conversation, De Armas shared that the new film offers a unique experience as she delves into the realm of John Wick, a character deeply admired by fans. She expressed her admiration for Keanu Reeves not only as an artist but also as a person and friend. According to her, he is a strong influence on set, always maintaining a courteous demeanor.
Knock Knock starts streaming on Peacock on June 1.
