Kesari Chapter 2: Director Karan Singh Tyagi on Akshay Kumar’s ‘f*ck you’ in historical drama; ‘the whole point was…’

Akshay Kumar’s latest movie, Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, is generating a lot of positive buzz since its release on Good Friday, April 18, 2025. In this film, Akshay uses the phrase “f*ck you” towards the British at the end, which has sparked conversation. Director Karan Singh Tyagi, who made his directorial debut with this movie, has discussed the use of the f-word and stated that it was intended to boldly challenge the British for their actions.

In an interview with Filme Shilmy, Kesari Chapter 2 director Karan Singh Tyagi expressed that it was essential for the film to include a strong assertion. This was because they aimed to confront the British with this assertion as a symbol of their defiance for past actions. This brave stance was inspired by Sankaran Nair’s story, and it was the courage they wanted to portray in the movie.

The filmmaker explained that the historical authenticity of the saying is from the 16th century, noting they had meticulously researched and sought expert advice from historians to confirm its validity.

At the trailer unveiling event not too long ago, Akshay Kumar himself touched upon his usage of the F-word in our upcoming movie. He emphasized that the term “slave” held a much more profound insult than the expletive itself. As an ardent fan, I can’t help but echo his sentiments. The actor further questioned why we, as the audience, tend to concentrate on the profanity and overlook the truly impactful statement, “you are still a slave,” which he believes is the ultimate form of degradation.

Akshay emphasized that, considering the circumstances, being shot wouldn’t have seemed as impactful as being referred to as a slave during that period.

In Chapter 2 of Kesari, the story unfolds around the life of lawyer C. Sankaran Nair, a notable figure who stood up against the British Empire during the pre-independence era. Key roles are played by R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday. This film is under the direction of Karan Singh Tyagi and produced by Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, and Adar Poonawalla. The movie finds its roots in the book titled “The Case That Shook The Empire: One Man’s Fight For The Truth”.
