As a gamer with a heart for music and a keen eye for cultural shifts, I find Kesha’s decision to re-record “TiK ToK” not only commendable but also deeply meaningful. Her journey, like a virtual quest filled with challenges and triumphs, has been nothing short of inspiring. The fact that she’s willing to adapt her music in response to real-world events speaks volumes about her character.
Kesha revealed plans to remake her popular track “TiK ToK,” altering the lyric previously saying “like P. Diddy” to something stronger, now being “against P. Diddy.” This decision comes in response to allegations against the media tycoon that surfaced this year.
“Released in 2010, Kesha’s song ‘TiK ToK’ continues to be one of her most successful hits and stayed at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for nine consecutive weeks. In the original version, she sings, “I wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy.” During her Coachella performance alongside Reneé Rapp in April, Kesha modified the lyrics to, “I wake up in the morning feeling like, I don’t care for P. Diddy!”
The recent development pertains to the numerous accusations levied against Sean “Diddy” Combs, who has been entangled in several lawsuits this year, with claims ranging from rape and sexual assault to investigations into sex trafficking. In March alone, searches were conducted on his homes in Miami and Los Angeles by Homeland Security, while in May a 2016 video emerged showing the rapper physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie, in a hotel corridor. The couple had previously resolved a lawsuit where Cassie alleged that Combs had repeatedly raped and abused her throughout their decade-long relationship.
“Kesha shared on social media that ‘Tik Tok’ was the first song she released with her own voice and name attached. I recall creating it with a sense of joy because that’s how I felt at the time, and I wanted others to feel the same. What fills me with pride is that this song continues to evoke those feelings in me, despite everything, and I hope we can all share in these emotions.”
“TikTok was the first song I ever released with my own voice and name attached! When creating it, I aimed to make it cheerful and uplifting, reflecting my emotions at the time. What’s truly rewarding is that this song continues to evoke those same positive feelings in me even now, and I believe for others as well…”

She carried on contemplating by expressing that the song remains for her a glimpse into how she perceived the world back then. That girl was innocent, free-spirited, and full of playfulness. This song captures a part of me that I cherish deeply, and now realize I must safeguard vigilantly. The world has undergone significant transformations, and so have I.
In her post, she acknowledged that Rapp came up with the revised lyric and expressed her strong affection for it, stating unequivocally that this new version is here to stay.
As a seasoned artist who has navigated the complexities of the music industry for many years, I understand all too well the importance of owning one’s creative work and protecting it with every fiber of my being. My first baby, my latest creation, embodies an unbridled joy that I have nurtured and protected throughout this wild ride. From the moment I started working on it, I knew it was something special – a reflection of my deepest emotions and a testament to the fun and pure joy that I strive to bring into both myself and others.
