In order to land a role in a cherished project like Rob Reiner’s sequel to “This Is Spinal Tap”, an actor needs to express their interest loudly. That’s exactly what Kevin Bacon, who shows no signs of slowing down at 66, did when he heard about the film’s upcoming release. The 1984 mockumentary comedy, while it didn’t do well initially at the box office, gained a cult following after its VHS release and is often credited as one of the first movies to popularize the genre. It tells the story of an English rock band striving to regain success in documentary format. Bacon is a devoted fan of this timeless movie and had his heart set on portraying one of the drummers who explode, but unfortunately didn’t get the part.
As reported by EW, Kevin Bacon recently graced The View as part of his campaign for his upcoming series on Amazon Prime Video titled The Bondsman. While there, he reminisced about his acting career and shared some of his all-time favorite films, with the mockumentary being his absolute favorite. He also praised working with Rob Reiner on A Few Good Men, expressing that Reiner is fantastic. In addition, he disclosed his desire to be part of the new Spinal Tap project, released in September 2025, stating he wanted to play one of the exploding drummers but didn’t have Reiner’s contact information at the time.
In the bustling world of Hollywood, everyone is connected, so it’s likely someone had Reiner’s contact who could assist him. However, that chance never presented itself. Bacon added, “Someone contacted him on my behalf, and I missed out on the role. I was thrilled about Spinal Tap‘s sequel, and the original was known for its humorous drummer disappearances.” Despite not landing the drummer role, Bacon is still being offered a part that involves music in The Bondsman.
