Kevin Costner’s New Docu-Series: ‘Yellowstone to Yosemite’ Journey

Kevin Costner is continuing in a manner reminiscent of President Theodore Roosevelt, not just symbolically but also literally. He seems to have a strong connection with Yellowstone, as he can’t seem to stay away from it. The actor and producer has planned a sequel to his initial docu-series on Fox Nation about the National Park, which he has named Yellowstone: One-Fifty. This upcoming show offers a fresh perspective on how the park came into existence. The series is called Yellowstone to Yosemite with Kevin Costner and it will see Costner retracing the 1903 expedition of Roosevelt and environmentalist John Muir, an excursion that led to the establishment of the National Parks system and the preservation of numerous acres of land.

On February 8, 2025, the first episode is scheduled to debut, marking the beginning of a year-long celebration called “America 250” campaign, which aims to honor America’s 250th birthday in 2026. Following this, two more episodes will be broadcasted each week, as reported by Variety.

According to the official series description:

During the journey, Costner delves into the area’s profound Indigenous American heritage, the unexpected arrival of outsiders in 1850, and John Muir’s transformation into an advocate for our most untouched landscapes. Through Costner’s lens, he sheds light on Muir’s fight against the complexities of resource management politics, and how Roosevelt’s involvement ultimately led to the development of a more organized National Park System, the establishment of 150 National Forests, 5 National Parks, and the preservation and protection of approximately 230 million acres of valuable land.

What Was So Special About Teddy Roosevelt’s 1903 Camping Trip Through Yellowstone and Yosemite?

In simpler terms, you wouldn’t often see a president embark on a camping trip like Theodore Roosevelt did in 1903. He was deep in the wilderness with a guide and a handful of friends, including naturalist and essayist John Burroughs, who later wrote about this adventure for The Atlantic. Notably absent were doctors or Secret Service agents. During his trip, Roosevelt encountered breathtaking sights and shared captivating stories, according to accounts from that time period.

In an official statement, Costner had this to say about the project:

Every now and then, you stumble upon a tale that possesses an extraordinary blend of factors; it’s so unbelievable it could be straight out of a novel, yet it defies all chances. Miraculously, it brings about positive change on a global scale. What makes this even more captivating is the fact that every bit of it is true. The account of President Theodore Roosevelt and John Muir’s camping journey through Yosemite is one such extraordinary tale, and I can hardly wait to delve deeper into the next phase of the conservation of the American frontier.

Additionally, Costner played a role in overseeing the project through his production company, Territory Films. This company collaborated with Warm Springs Productions to develop the series. Furthermore, Rod Lake and Marc Pierce from Warm Springs Productions also served as executive producers for the series.

According to Fox Nation president Lauren Petterson, Kevin Costner possesses a rare talent for portraying and engaging audiences with the American experience through his exceptional storytelling. In her statement, she noted that after our initial project together, there is no filmmaker who embodies the essence of America in celebration of its 250th anniversary more than Costner.
