Kevin Feige on Whether Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man Could Return After Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine: “It Can Be Done”

As a long-time Marvel fan and avid gamer of the MCU movies, I’ve grown up with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) leading the charge in the Avengers saga. Their departures from the franchise in “Avengers: Endgame” left a significant void in my Marvel universe experience. So, hearing Kevin Feige’s recent comments about their potential returns as part of the multiverse concept is both exciting and intriguing.

Kevin Feige is sharing his thoughts on the possibility of Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as Iron Man and Chris Evans returning as Captain America in the MCU, after Hugh Jackman’s announcement of appearing as Wolverine in “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

With the possibility of various versions of characters existing in the multiverse, Marvel Studios’ head has expressed that it’s feasible to bring them back, but only if proper attention is given to the development of these superheroes and their narratives.

I’m excited about this challenge!

In 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” Downey and Evans bid farewell to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, marking Downey’s poignant exit as Iron Man/Tony Stark. Meanwhile, Jackman’s Wolverine made a heart-wrenching sacrifice in 2017’s “Logan.” Despite this, Jackman manages to reappear as the character in an upcoming film directed by Shawn Levy, without tarnishing the legacy of “Logan.”

Previously, Feige advised Jackman against re-appearing as the beloved character in an interview with Empire magazine in May. He shared, “I told Hugh, ‘Here’s some advice for you: Don’t do it.’ We had such a fantastic ending with Logan – something we shouldn’t tamper with.”

After some persuasion, the actor managed to convince Feige that taking on the role of a distinctly new Wolverine was worth it for him.

Jackman expressed his enthusiasm to Empire magazine back then for the adult-oriented Disney movie featuring Wolverine, as it offered an opportunity to present “previously unexplored facets” of the character on the big screen.

Deadpool & Wolverine, also starring Ryan Reynolds, is set to hit theaters July 26.
