As an ardent fan of Akshay Kumar, I must say that watching his latest release, Khel Khel Mein, was a bit like attending a friend’s wedding where everything seemed perfect on the outside but there was a hidden storm brewing beneath. The movie, despite its promising ensemble cast and unique concept, couldn’t quite make it to the dance floor at the box office.
Currently, Akshay Kumar is experiencing a challenging period. Unfortunately, his recent film, Khel Khel Mein, didn’t resonate with audiences at the box office. This comedy-drama, helmed by Mudassar Aziz, debuted alongside Stree 2 and Vedaa on August 15, but failed to draw a significant crowd. The movie’s total collection for its first extended week of eight days amounts to approximately Rs 21 crore net in India, which is quite low compared to typical Akshay Kumar films.
Khel Khel Mein suffered because of remake tag and Stree 2 storm
Featuring an eclectic group of actors such as Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, and Pragya Jaiswal along with Akshay Kumar, the comedy-drama garnered 1.30 crore rupees on Thursday, raising its total India earnings to 21 crores.
Despite being the least successful opener among Independence Day releases, it became the second favorite option, outperforming Vedaa. While the film has garnered positive to mediocre feedback from viewers, its remake label appears to have dampened interest. Similarly, Khel Khel Mein faced a backlash due to its horror-comedy genre, which seems to be steering it towards a disappointing conclusion.
Khel Khel Mein loses shows to Stree 2, eyeing for a Rs 30 crore finish
During the extended holiday season, the movie directed by Mudasaar Aziz didn’t experience significant increases in viewership, leading to the cancellation of screenings. According to recent news, exhibitors have been switching out their screenings for Stree 2, a film that has been garnering exceptional success at the box office.
Despite not having any significant Hindi movies releasing soon, Khel Khel Mein still has ample opportunity to achieve a decent overall earnings. The film is projected to finish its box office run with an estimated net collection of around Rs 30 crore to Rs 32 crore in India, which is more than his previous release, Sarfira.
