As a huge fan of Lakshya’s acting, I am absolutely blown away by his performance in “Kill.” The movie is a game-changer in Bollywood with its gritty realism and extreme violence that sets it apart from the typical action comedies or commercial thrillers.

Laksh Lalwani, commonly recognized as “Lakshya” in Bollywood, has been generating buzz in India’s film scene with his latest production, titled “Kill“, which had its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2023. In an interview with Variety, just prior to strolling down the red carpet for a screening at this year’s Tribeca Festival, Lakshya discussed the graphic violence depicted in the film, stressing that it is “a unique cinematic experience”.

I’m a huge fan of the Indian action thriller “Kill,” which follows the story of army commando Amrit, played by Lakshya. In this gripping tale, I discover that my beloved is being forced into an unwanted marriage. Determined to put a stop to it, I board a train headed for New Delhi. However, my journey is disrupted when the train is hijacked by a ruthless gang of thieves. With a burning desire for justice, I take matters into my own hands and mete out brutal punishment to each and every one of them, transforming a personal tragedy into an unforgettable, raw, and exhilarating cinematic experience.

I, as a devoted fan, reported to Variety that Lakshya shared his perspective, expressing that no one had endeavored to create a film similar to this before. However, director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s intent was clear: to produce an authentic and sincere cinematic experience.

As a devoted cinemaphile, I can’t get enough of films – whether it’s watching them or being involved in their creation. My director and the entire team share this passion. We poured our hearts into making this film with unwavering honesty, dedication, and sincerity. Our focus was on staying true to the script while also understanding that not every aspect will resonate with everyone.

As a passionate gamer, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of “Kill,” a gritty action thriller that promises to deliver on its no-holds-barred promise. The trailer alone has gotten my heart racing, but the actual fight sequences, filled with gushing blood and shattered skulls, have left me utterly mesmerized. The relentless pace of the film is a testament to Bhat’s bold decision-making skills, and I wholeheartedly support his choices. Lakshya couldn’t agree more with this thrilling ride!

At home in India, there was much appreciation for our unflinching portrayal of reality in our film. People were thrilled that we didn’t hold back from depicting the harshness and brutality of the situation.

In the core of “Kill,” Lakshya delivers an exceptional portrayal. Having only appeared in TV productions beforehand, taking on such an intricate character was a challenge for him. With “Kill,” Lakshya embarks on a fresh phase in his acting journey. To prepare for this role, he underwent rigorous physical preparation. In conversation with “Variety,” he shared:

Six to eight months before the shoot, we began rigorously preparing. No shortcuts allowed; no cheating on dietary restrictions. The goal was to look our best. A demanding schedule ensued: hitting the gym twice daily and mastering all stunts were non-negotiable. Despite the challenges, I found great enjoyment in this intense journey.

As an ardent follower of Bollywood cinema, I’m thrilled to witness the impending shift in the action genre. Up until now, we’ve been treated to a plethora of action comedies and commercial thrillers. However, “Kill” is poised to disrupt this trend by introducing a grittier, more authentic take on action. This innovative approach will allow the industry to delve deeper into the genre’s darker aspects and create more believable films. The film’s overwhelming success has sparked speculation about a sequel, but Lakshya, the team behind “Kill,” have stated that they are currently not entertaining any such plans.

Before the U.S. premiere of “John Wick,” collaborators Lionsgate and 87Eleven Entertainment disclosed plans for a British version of the film.
