For those familiar with our past articles, you might remember our review of the humorous battle royale game King of Crabs from 2019. Although it didn’t resonate much with our critic, the developers are giving the King of Crabs series another attempt with their forthcoming release titled King of Crabs – Invasion.

Indeed, developer Robot Squid has chosen to diverge from the battle royale genre and delve into the realm of Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games instead. Akin to Age of War, King of Crabs – Invasion places you in combat against an opponent along a linear battlefield.

In simpler terms, you should strategically decide which units to use in combat, aiming to defeat your opponent before suffering defeat yourself. This could range from large groups of common troops like crabs, to more advanced weaponry such as catapults, and even armed crustaceans. However, the varying terrains and challenges make victory a tricky goal to achieve.

It’s quite apparent that King of Crabs – Invasion is adapting the chaos from its original crustacean-themed gameplay into a fresh genre. Given the absurdity of crabs engaged in mortal combat, it seems fitting to develop a straightforward yet entertaining real-time strategy (RTS) game as a follow-up.

Simultaneously, since Cameron criticized that the original idea of King of Crabs wasn’t robust enough, I must admit I have concerns that the initial humor in King of Crabs – Invasion might lose its charm rather swiftly. However, the only method to verify this is by experiencing it yourself, which you can do when King of Crabs – Invasion launches on May 30th!
