As a long-time fan of King of the Hill, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia when I saw the first look at older Bobby Hill. Growing up with the Hills was like having my own extended family, and it feels surreal to see them return after all these years.
After many years of anticipation, we’ve finally gotten our first glimpse at an older Bobby Hill from the upcoming King of the Hill reboot. It turns out that Bobby will be taller, a bit slimmer, and sporting some scruff. Moreover, we now have some insight into where he is in life – a post on Grey DeLisle’s (since deleted) Instagram account reveals that Bobby has become a celebrated chef. This is quite a departure from the comedy career he aspired to as a child, but it appears that his father Hank’s passion for grilling may have ultimately influenced his son’s path in life.
Take a peek at the initial appearance of 21-year-old Bobby Hill, who is renowned as “The Grill Master,” and learn more about his professional journey in the section below.
Bobby Hill has always had a deep affection for food, dating back to family dinners at home, savoring his mom’s ‘Spa-Peggy and Meatballs.’ He also fondly remembers indulging in lutefisk during church potlucks and sharing meals with loved ones at Luly’s Cafeteria. These food-related experiences have become the foundation for some of his most treasured memories. Interestingly, it was his weekends spent grilling with his father that eventually led him to pursue a career as a robata chef.
As a self-taught culinary prodigy who competed on King of the Grill at a young age, Chef Hill is convinced that delicious food has the power to address any issue. He blends the flavors of his youth, merging traditional Texas cuisine with international tastes. With Robata Chane, Chef Hill aims to pay tribute to both Japanese robata cooking and the German roots of the Texas Hill Country, all while testing the limits of culinary creativity through his unique fusion dishes.
The King of the Hill Revival Will Debut on Hulu
From 1997 to 2009, the television series King of the Hill aired for 13 seasons. It’s centered around the Hills, an ordinary family residing in the fictional town of Arlen, Texas. Hank Hill, a likable everyman, holds down a job as an assistant manager at Strickland Propane and truly cherishes his work. He lives with his wife Peggy, a substitute teacher who dreams big; their son Bobby, whom Hank finds hard to relate to; Luanne, Hank’s ditzy but lovable niece; and Lady Bird, their pet bloodhound. The show focuses on the Hills as they navigate through everyday life, finding themselves in relatable, sometimes endearingly routine situations. King of the Hill garnered widespread praise during its run, leaving many eager yet apprehensive to see Hank, Bobby, and Peggy back on our screens after so long.
In an interview with MovieWeb, Pamela Adlon, who voices Bobby on the show, shared her experience coming back to the character after so many years, describing it as “surreal” for creators and writers Mike Judge and Greg Daniels to depict a now-twenty-something Bobby Hill.
We’re currently in the second season of our reboot, and Bobby is now 21 years old. He works as a chef at a fusion restaurant in Dallas, which has been an amazing journey so far. It’s been truly enjoyable for everyone involved. I think it’s been quite surreal for Mike and Greg to see Bobby grow from a 12-year-old into a mature adult with relationships and personal development.
Isn’t it true that we all experience similar phases with our children and the kids of our friends? It’s quite astonishing to witness my friends’ kids growing up. Sometimes, I find myself thinking, ‘Hold on, when did this happen?’ So, it’s just a bit confusing and chaotic.
