As a fan who’s been around the block a few times, I can’t help but be thrilled about the upcoming film “Pillion”! The combination of Harry Lighton, Harry Melling, and Alexander Skarsgård is like a trifecta of cinematic delight.
24 Studios has acquired U.S. distribution rights for the first feature film by British director Harry Lighton, titled “Pillion.” This movie is produced by Element Pictures, who have previously worked on projects like “Poor Things.” The lead roles in “Pillion” are played by Harry Melling, known from “The Pale Blue Eye,” and Alexander Skarsgård, recognized for his work in “The Northman,” “Succession,” and other productions.
In a “humorous, vulgar romance” titled Pillion, Skarsgård portrays Ray, a strikingly attractive head of a motorcycle gang. He selects Colin (Melling), a timid suburbanite often overlooked, as his new subordinate. Ray drags Colin away from his monotonous suburban existence and immerses him in a society of eccentric, sexually adventurous bikers who identify within the LGBTQ+ community. As Colin becomes more engrossed in Ray’s lifestyle, he starts to ponder whether a life devoted entirely to submission is truly suitable for him.
Lighton, who was nominated for a BAFTA in 2017 for his short film “Wren Boys”, has recently completed directing “Pillion” based on his own screenplay, which is loosely based on Adam Mars-Jones’ 2019 novel “Box Hill”. Filming for the movie was wrapped up this summer.
Company Fremantle, based in Fremantle, was responsible for creating the movie titled “Pillion“. The production of this film received funding from BBC Film and the BFI, with additional support coming from Fremanture Picturehouse Entertainment, who will release the film in the United Kingdom, and September Film, who will manage distribution within the Benelux region.
This year at Cannes, I was thrilled to witness the buzz surrounding Pillion, a captivating project that caught everyone’s attention. It was Cornerstone, who manages global sales, who showcased this gem to potential buyers, igniting a flurry of interest.
Actor Melling, who was recently spotted working with Caleb Landry Jones in Athina Rachel Tsangari’s Venice competition entry titled “Harvest”, is set to feature alongside Damian Lewis and Mark Rylance in the sequel to the Emmy-nominated 2015 limited series, “Wolf Hall: The Mirror and The Light”.
Alexander Skarsgård, who played supporting roles in the Kate Winslet-led film “Lee” and alongside Donald Glover and Maya Erskine on Amazon Prime’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” series, will next appear in the sci-fi series “Murderbot” for Apple TV+.
