Recently, Aamir Khan’s spouse, Kiran Rao, voiced her worries over how social media might affect their 13-year-old son, Azad. She described it as a challenging situation that parents must navigate carefully.
In a talk with Filmfare, Kiran Rao voiced her concerns regarding her son Azad’s involvement with social media platforms. At 13 years old, Azad doesn’t personally use social media yet, but he does explore YouTube and multiplayer games where he interacts with other users online. Kiran highlighted the challenges parents face when helping their children navigate the complexities of the digital world.
Kiran additionally voiced her apprehensions regarding the effects of online actions on young minds, observing that conventional means of interaction, such as reading, are diminishing in popularity. “I’m concerned not only about the risks associated with online behavior and its potential to sway thoughts, but also about the disappearance of traditional methods of communication,” she stated.
She expressed her desire for Azad to become literate and also noted that he’s been well-mannered. Yet, she acknowledged the challenge parents face when it comes to managing digital access, stating, “It’s a slippery slope for any parent since it’s hard to fully restrict it.
Kiran Rao pointed out that online games and social media platforms have grown progressively engrossing for children, serving as a novel method of interaction. She underlined the importance of parents setting limits on their child’s social media usage to encourage off-screen activities such as reading books or playing conventional games.
The director emphasized that platforms like Instagram, specifically, often harm adult emotional health because they flood users with a continuous stream of content from multiple categories. She clarified how people might unwittingly invest large chunks of their time on the site, trapped in the vicious cycle of endlessly scrolling for negative news or events, known as doomscrolling.
When queried about Azad’s fascination towards Bollywood, Kiran disclosed that her son hasn’t shown much interest so far. She divulged that Azad has recently been involved with Aamir Khan, tagging along to storyboard meetings and post-production sessions. Kiran voiced optimism that Azad may one day grow fond of the film industry.
