Korea Named Country of Honor at Banff World Media Festival

This year, Korea is chosen to be the ‘Country of Honor’ at the Banff World Media Festival. The television industry gathering and market will highlight the increasing global influence of Korean content.

Excited as a gamer about the global buzz surrounding “Squid Game”, I can’t help but feel a thrill knowing it’s gearing up for a third season on Netflix! It seems that the Korean entertainment industry is making a significant impact in the Canadian Rockies, and I can’t wait to witness it firsthand. The Korea Creative Content Agency will be spearheading a group of top-notch Korean producers and talents at Banff’s 46th edition from June 8 to 11, right here in Banff, Alberta.

The Korean content “K-content” will be honored at the Rockie Awards taking place on June 9th. With its captivating storytelling and high-quality productions, South Korea has become a dominant force in global entertainment. We are thrilled to host Korean creators in Banff and encourage partnerships for future international collaborations,” said Jenn Kuzmyk, the executive director, in a statement released on Thursday.

In 2025, Banff will unveil the participants for its Diversity of Voices program, an initiative that offers under-represented professionals opportunities to connect with and strike deals with top industry experts. This eighth annual event is supported by Netflix, the Black Screen Office, the Indigenous Screen Office, Reelworld Screen Institute, and the Disability Screen Office.

Lindsay Doyle, Netflix Canada’s director of public policy, shares that they’ve had numerous encounters with participants from the Diversity of Voices program over the years. Each one has expressed the significant role the program played in their careers. Excitedly, we can’t wait to meet this year’s group in Banff and learn about what lies ahead for these gifted content creators.

A list of the 2025 Diversity of Voices participants can be found here.
