Kristen Bell Says Her Children May Not Love ‘Frozen,’ But Appreciate “They Can Go to College Because of It”

As a seasoned gamer and ardent fan of Disney movies, I can wholeheartedly appreciate Kristen Bell‘s journey with the Frozen franchise. Having grown up watching Disney princesses who were flawless, poised, and often unattainable, it’s heartening to see an actress like Bell bring a character to life that mirrors the reality of many young girls – a girl who trips over things, talks too much, and wears her heart on her sleeve. It’s a refreshing change in the Disney landscape, one that resonates with me as someone who’s spent countless hours role-playing and identifying with characters that feel more human.

Even though Kristen Bell’s kids might not be fans of the “Frozen” series, the actress pointed out that they can still find something positive in the movies.

In a recent conversation with Vanity Fair, the actress who gave life to Anna in the 2013 and 2019 Disney animated films, Bell, was queried whether her children view the movies differently now that they’ve grown up, as opposed to when they initially showed no interest.

She replied, ‘They’re indeed grateful for it as it allows them to attend college, but they’re not caught up in the craze like Frozen.’ She explained that children often make adults feel connected yet distant themselves from things their parents are interested in. Even if they secretly enjoyed it, they wouldn’t confess this to her.

In another part of the interview, Bell expressed her long-held dream of working on a Disney animated film. When she received the offer to voice Anna, she was overjoyed. Yet, she also recognized that this opportunity presented a chance to develop a character that I, at age eleven, deeply yearned to see.

Bell remembered saying, “Disney princesses always stand with grace and poise, their hands perfectly manicured. But I wanted Anna to be different. I wanted her to have messy mornings, snoring loudly, talking non-stop, wearing her emotions openly, and tripping over things – the genuine charm of a girl who is lovable, despite not being polished.

The Veronica Mars alum said she was thankful they let her run with her ideas for the character.

She noted that the entire process was highly collaborative, with certain aspects handled by others and some left for her to manage. In essence, she was given the lead. To this day, she finds immense pleasure in looking back at it, as she takes great pride in her work.

Disney is presently developing both Frozen 3 and a potential fourth installment of the “Frozen” series, with it being anticipated that Idina Menzel will once again lend her voice for the character she originally played.
