Kushboo Sundar opens up on Rajiv Kapoor’s ‘addiction to alcohol’; recalls talking to him a day before his death: ‘He didn’t like the way I…’

As a close friend and confidante of Rajiv Kapoor for many years, I have cherished memories that will remain etched in my heart forever. Our bond was unique, built over shared experiences, laughter, and the occasional tears. His zest for life and infectious humor were contagious, making him an unforgettable presence in any room he entered.

I remember our conversations about fashion, from the white nail polish on my toes that he found elegant to learning how to walk gracefully in heels without making a sound – lessons I still carry with me today. Yet, it was his struggle with alcoholism that cast a dark shadow over his life and ours. Despite our efforts, we couldn’t help him break free from this destructive habit.

In the days leading up to his sudden demise, I spoke to Rajiv, who seemed to disregard his health despite being unwell. His spirit remained undeterred, as he promised to meet me soon. Little did I know that our next meeting would be under vastly different circumstances.

Rajiv was more than just a friend; he was a brother figure who was always there for me during my highs and lows. His sudden passing left me in shock, but his spirit continues to live on among us. It’s rare to find someone with such vitality and a deep commitment to friendships, and I believe that he is still with us in spirit, guiding us through life.

In the end, I’d like to share a little joke that Rajiv would often tell: “Why don’t we ever tell secrets on a farm? Because the potatoes have eyes, the corn has ears, and the potatoes have mouths!” Though his physical presence is gone, his spirit lives on, and I will forever treasure the laughter he brought into my life. Rest in peace, dear friend. You will be missed.

As a lifestyle advisor, I’d like to share a poignant tale about Rajiv Kapoor, the youngest among the illustrious Kapoor brothers, who sadly left us at the tender age of 58 following a heart attack in 2021. In a moving tribute, actress Kushboo Sundar reminisced about Rajiv’s battles with alcohol. She divulged that we had a conversation just a day prior to his untimely demise, where he appeared to disregard his well-being, yet expressed eagerness to meet her soon. Kushboo also recounted a lighter moment, when she spoke of how Rajiv once criticized her walk and even instructed her on how to stroll elegantly in heels without making a sound.

During an interview on Vickey Lalwani’s YouTube channel, Kushboo Sundar discussed Rajiv Kapoor’s struggle with alcoholism and how it negatively affected his health. She revealed that although he had a heart problem, his alcohol addiction made it difficult to help him quit drinking.

She fondly recalled the unique connection she had with Rajiv Kapoor, mentioning some of the small lessons he imparted on her. She disclosed that in 1983, he suggested wearing white nail polish on her toes, finding it sophisticated, and since then, she’s continued to do so. Furthermore, she noted, “He didn’t approve of my walk, so he taught me how to strut in heels quietly.

Kushboo disclosed that they had talked the day prior to Rajiv’s unexpected demise. She reminisced, “I chatted with Chimpu the day before his passing. He was battling a severely high fever amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite feeling unwell, he remained his typical self… He seemed nonchalant about his health and vowed to meet up soon.

Additionally, the actress disclosed that Rajiv had been struggling with poor health for quite some time, battling a severe knee problem that required numerous operations. Sadly, these surgeries didn’t help his situation. She divulged that she was in Mumbai when she received the devastating news about his demise. Boney Kapoor was the one who broke the sad news to her, saying “Chimpu is gone.” This news left Khushbu completely shocked and stunned.

Kushboo mentioned that she and Rajiv had grown so accustomed to sharing meals together that it became a regular custom for them. His unexpected demise left her stunned, as she characterized him as someone hard to find who possessed such vivacity and an unwavering dedication to friendships. She further stated that even today, she along with his friends firmly believe that he remains with them in spirit.

Back in the day, as a young aspirant in the world of films, I forged a special bond with Rajiv Kapoor while we were both part of the Ram Teri Ganga Maili production. Originally, the plan was to introduce Kushboo Sundar through this film, but due to her tender age of 14 at the time, the director made the decision to cast Mandakini in the memorable role instead.
