Chhaya Kadam, a notable figure in the Marathi entertainment world, gained prominence in Bollywood through Kiran Rao’s successful film “Laapataa Ladies”. However, she is currently under scrutiny as reports suggest that she has been called by the Forest Department over accusations of consuming wild animal meat.
In adherence to a report published by FPJ, I, as a conscientious supporter of animal welfare, have raised a significant concern to the Thane Chief Conservator of Forests and the Divisional Forest Officer, on behalf of the Plant and Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), based in Mumbai. The matter at hand is the contentious statement made by Chhaya Kadam, who reportedly claimed in an interview that she had consumed meat from a protected wildlife species. Currently, the Forest Department is diligently investigating this allegation through a formal inquiry.
As your trusted lifestyle advisor, I’m diligently working behind the scenes to ensure justice is served regarding the recent controversy. We’re meticulously tracking down any individuals implicated in the illegal procurement of the meat, including potential poachers and accomplices who might have assisted the actress. Our priority is upholding ethical standards and promoting a sustainable lifestyle for all.
Officer Rakesh Bhoir shared with the source that they spoke to Kadam on the phone, and she disclosed that she’s away on a business trip and won’t be back for four days. She also mentioned that she’s seeking legal advice and intends to appear for questioning once she returns.
A different law enforcement official also contributed to the investigation by disclosing that she had spoken on a radio show about the case, providing details which have led them to pursue the poachers in the location where the suspected crimes occurred. Moreover, this officer stated that severe penalties will be imposed on the individuals responsible for these actions.
During the interview, it was said that the actress from Laapataa Ladies is believed to have spoken about consuming various types of game meats, including mouse deer, rabbits, wild pigs, monitor lizards, and porcupines.
Previously, the Mumbai-based NGO Plant and Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) submitted a formal accusation against Chhaya. In a letter sent to the Chief Conservator of Forests and the Divisional Forest Officer in Thane, PAWS expressed concern over her statements and requested that legal action be taken against the actress as well as any other parties implicated.
The NGO contended that such statements pose a harmful warning to the public and also violate the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. Additionally, they urged authorities to invoke appropriate sections of the Biological Diversity Act of 2002, regarding this interview as an admission of guilt on their part.
