Lady Gaga, Andy Samberg Perform “Dick in a Box” and More of The Lonely Island’s Songs for ‘SNL50’ Concert

Suddenly, it’s 2006 again.

On the exciting Friday night of SNL50: The Homecoming Concert, I stepped onto the stage to perform “Shallow,” a captivating number from Bradley Cooper’s 2018 movie masterpiece, A Star Is Born. Joining me was none other than the hilarious Andy Samberg, who did a spot-on job standing in for Cooper. What an unforgettable night it was!

Gaga swiftly cut in during the conversation with Samberg and proposed they try something more suitable for his vocal abilities. Samberg replied, “There’s one song, but Justin isn’t here to take on his parts!” Gaga countered, “Andy, stop being difficult. I’ll sing it with you instead.

Later on, they performed a softer rendition of “Dick in a Box,” an beloved SNL sketch and The Lonely Island song initially aired in 2006 during a holiday episode of the comedy series, with Lady Gaga playing the piano. This performance drew laughter from Colin Jost, Scarlett Johansson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and other audience members. In the original sketch, the roles were played by the comedy duo, Justin Timberlake and Samberg.

Gaga, Samberg, Chris Parnell, Bad Bunny, T-Pain, and Jorma Taccone (who is part of Samberg’s group The Lonely Island) teamed up to perform a selection of songs that included “Motherlover,” a sequel to the 2009 sketch with Timberlake and Samberg, as well as other hits like “I’m On A Boat,” “I Just Had Sex,” “Lazy Sunday,” “TV Off” and “Jizz in My Pants.” To conclude the act, an image of Lorne Michaels was displayed on the screen.

Some standout moments at the anniversary concert were:

1. Will Ferrell performing “Not Like Us.”
2. Miley Cyrus mentioning Paul Rudd while singing “Flowers.”
3. Jimmy Fallon kicking off the show as the host with a rendition of “Blues Brothers.”

50th Anniversary Special of SNL, titled “The Anniversary Celebration,” is scheduled to broadcast on NBC at 8 PM Eastern Time on Sunday evening, continuing the festivities.
