Lady Gaga Inches Closer to EGOT Status After Sports Emmy Win

Following her Sports Emmy win on Tuesday evening, Lady Gaga now needs just one more award to become a EGOT laureate.

On Tuesday, the singer of “Abracadabra” was awarded for her Super Bowl rendition of the Oscar-nominated song “Hold My Hand,” from the movie Top Gun: Maverick. She triumphed over competing nominees like Prime Video’s The Evolution of the Black Quarterback, HBO Max’s The Lionheart, ESPN+’s Noche UFC: For Mexico, For All Time, and Netflix’s The Turnaround to claim victory.

As a fan, I was taken aback when Lady Gaga unexpectedly took the stage for her Super Bowl LIX pre-game performance. Instead of the usual announcement, it was a secret surprise. During her powerful rendition of “Hold My Hand,” she was joined by police officers, military personnel, and others to honor the victims of the New Year’s Eve tragedy in New Orleans. It was truly a moving tribute.

Remarkably, the most recent prestigious honor places Lady Gaga among a select group of celebrities approaching EGOT status. To date, she boasts 14 Grammy Awards, an Oscar (for the best original song from “Shallows“) and now a Sports Emmy. The only award left for Lady Gaga to collect and complete her impressive portfolio is a Tony.

14-time Grammy victor is moving closer to joining the ranks of artists such as Adele, Cynthia Erivo, Cher, Kate Winslet, and others who are nearing the achievement of an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony).

Apart from winning her latest Sports Emmy, this year has been quite eventful for Lady Gaga. In February, she launched her seventh studio album titled Mayhem. Shortly after, she announced a tour to accompany the record, known as the Mayhem Ball Tour, which is set to begin in July.

Additionally, Lady Gaga was this year’s headliner at Coachella and delivered one of, if not the, most impressive sets at the adored two-weekend festival.
