As a longtime fan of Taylor Sheridan’s gritty, gripping storytelling, I must say that the debut of “Landman” has left me utterly thrilled! The sheer magnitude of its audience draw, especially in today’s crowded streaming landscape, is nothing short of impressive. With Billy Bob Thornton at the helm as a Texas oilman, it’s no wonder this series has struck a chord with viewers.
The drama series “Landman,” created by Taylor Sheridan, attracted a substantial number of viewers during its first episode on November 17, marking another successful debut for him.
The first episode of the show attracted a total of 5.2 million viewers on Paramount+ and Paramount Network, airing after the second episode of the ongoing Yellowstone series. This streaming viewership sets a record for the most successful debut of a Paramount+ series in the past two years, surpassing the launch of the Yellowstone prequel series 1923, which garnered 7.4 million viewers across multiple platforms back in December 2022.
Paramount+ announces that “Landman,” starring Billy Bob Thornton as a Texas oil tycoon, ranks among its most successful series debuts, alongside “1923” and “Tulsa King.” Additionally, it reports that in the United States, the streaming-only viewership for this original production has been the largest on the platform within the first three days.
The total of 5.2 million viewers for the show “Landman” was calculated by VideoAmp, taking into account its broadcast on the Paramount Network and streaming data from Paramount+. While Paramount+ typically doesn’t share detailed viewer statistics, Nielsen ratings suggest that approximately 3 million viewers watched the premiere on the Paramount Network, with an additional 400,000 catching a simultaneous broadcast on CMT. This implies roughly 1.8 million viewers streamed the episode via Paramount+. It’s important to note that due to a contract dispute, Paramount Global currently doesn’t use Nielsen ratings, and there may be some discrepancies between Nielsen and VideoAmp linear measurement numbers.
During its debut on November 17th, Yellowstone managed to attract a total of 6.89 million viewers across Paramount Network and CMT, as reported by Nielsen. Interestingly, the viewership for the record-breaking premiere from a week prior increased to an impressive 21.1 million viewers when factoring in three extra days of viewing, according to VideoAmp. This represented a growth of approximately 29% compared to its initial audience.
