‘Landman’ Season 1 Finale: Andy Garcia Explains His Surprising Cameo

Warning: The Following Contains Spoilers for Landman Season 1, Episode 10, “The Crumbs of Hope”

In simple terms, Taylor Sheridan’s new show, titled “Landman“, concluded its first season yesterday, giving us a glimpse of what that surprising appearance in the finale might imply if the series gets another season. The main character, Tommy Norris, is played by Billy Bob Thornton. Set amidst the oilfields of West Texas, “Landman” portrays tough workers and ambitious billionaires trying to strike it rich in the oil industry as oil rigs become more prevalent in the state. Notable stars in this series include Demi Moore, Ali Larter, and Jon Hamm.

In an interview with Variety about the Season 1 finale of Landman, titled “The Crumbs of Hope”, Thornton and co-creator Christian Wallace spoke about Andy Garcia‘s unexpected appearance as Galino, the cartel leader who had kidnapped and tortured Tommy. Instead of sealing his fate, Galino suggested a collaboration between them. For Thornton, acting alongside his longtime friend for the first time felt incredibly authentic.

Andy is an outstanding individual and actor, and during our final scenes in the last episode, it was genuinely satisfying as we seemed to be two seasoned professionals squaring off against each other. This encounter was quite memorable, and I must admit every second of it felt authentic. Currently, Tommy is engaging with someone who is incredibly intelligent. The others were employed by him, but now Tommy is conversing directly with the man. There are both pros and cons to this situation. Given his intelligence, we can’t predict what Tommy might unwittingly fall for.

In terms of how Garcia’s presence might impact the storyline moving forward, Wallace remarked, “The cartel and the oil industry are like strange neighbors coexisting in West Texas.” He further added, “Andy’s character believes he can leverage this proximity for his own advantage.” It’s worth mentioning that while there hasn’t been an official confirmation about a second season of Landman, given its growing popularity, it seems unlikely that it won’t be renewed. Despite a rocky start, the series has now established itself as another successful production from Sheridan, similar to Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown.

What a Tommy and Galino Partnership in ‘Landman’ Could Look Like

Following Galino and Tommy appearing to form an alliance, this partnership may be advantageous for both sides. Admittedly, it might not run smoothly, but with Thornton’s character climbing the ranks after Hamm’s Monty Miller passed away, he’s now better placed to operate covertly. This hidden collaboration could potentially yield profits for Galino, who is likely to offer security services in return for a stake in M-Tex.

Thornton remarked, “The old saying goes: ‘Familiarize yourself with your friends and keep an eye on your adversaries.’ Tommy thinks if he becomes somewhat friendly with this person, they might be able to resolve their issues, as it’s inevitable either way.” However, the question arises: how long will such a relationship last, and who might first betray whom? It certainly is going to happen eventually.
