As a passionate gamer and art enthusiast, I’ve been utterly captivated by American artist Landon Metz’ latest body of work showcased at Waddington Custot gallery in London. Raised in Arizona and now residing in Brooklyn, Metz has made a name for himself through his stunning paintings that feature large biomorphic shapes in thin acrylic paint, creating a mesmerizing dialogue between the artwork and its surroundings.
American artist Landon Metz is displaying a fresh collection of artworks at Waddington Custot gallery in London. Originally from Arizona and currently residing in Brooklyn, Metz gains recognition for producing paintings featuring enormous biomorphic forms, delicately painted with diluted acrylic, that engage in intriguing spatial conversations with their surroundings.
The title-giving program traces Metz’s musical debut, a six-track EP with an enchanting ambiance, perfectly complementing his artistic endeavors. When probed about managing both now, Metz shares with Hypeart that he strives for “genuine and authentic creations.” Interestingly, it was music that held his deepest affections during his childhood years. The power of music is undeniable: “It compels you to experience its emotions.”
Metz’s art in dyeing on canvas is similar to his ethereal soundscapes in the way they both attempt to convey the elusive nature of time. Metz expressed in an earlier interview, “Every part of my work, whether through painting or music, eventually comes together harmoniously, not always by my own design but more like a predestined alignment.”

In his newest exhibition, Metz showcases some of his biggest pieces yet – grand, expansive panels that seem to float against the gallery walls despite being stationary. The artist doesn’t feel compelled to convey deep meanings through his art or music; instead, he finds joy in the creation process itself. “I genuinely adore painting – producing paintings, observing paintings, the past and future of painting,” he shared.
Every morning, I rise with the intention of creating something exceptional, which often takes the form of painting. I’m not overly concerned with reaching a definitive outcome or discovering answers; instead, I simply put in an honest effort each day. The collection presented in this exhibition is a reflection of my creative journey during the first half of 2024. I take immense pride in this representation and feel fantastic about where I’ve been artistically.
Landon Metz is currently on view at Waddington Custot in London until August 9, 2024.
