As a fervent admirer of artistry and resilience, I find myself deeply moved by the departure of Madhura Ji, a remarkable woman who left an indelible mark on multiple creative realms. Her life story is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and family values that transcend generations.
Madhura, the wife of renowned musician Pandit Jasraj, has passed away at the age of 86 on September 25. She breathed her last due to old-age related issues in the early hours of the morning. According to family spokesperson Pritam Sharma, Madhura’s final rites will be held at Mumbai’s Oshiwara Crematorium at 4 PM today.
Born to the renowned filmmaker V Shantaram, Madhura got married to the accomplished musician Pandit Jasraj in 1962. She is survived by her two children, Shaarang Dev Pandit (a music director) and Durga Jasraj (a TV personality), as well as their grandchildren. The late individual had a multifaceted career that spanned various roles such as a director, producer, and writer.
Apart from this, she penned multiple books, one of them being her father’s biography titled “V Shantaram: The Man Transforming Indian Cinema,” chronicling his extraordinary career as a classical vocalist within the Mewati Gharana. In 2010, Madhura made history by earning the Limca Book of Records for being the oldest first-time director of a feature film. She was the one who directed the Marathi movie “Aai Tujha Aashirwad,” which included songs from Pandit Jasraj.
Later on, Madhura also took charge of directing a biographical short film about her husband, whom we know as the renowned Pandit Jasraj, affectionately called Sangeet Martand. To clarify, this esteemed individual was honored with the Padma Vibhushan award and passed away in 2020 at the age of 90 due to a cardiac arrest.
