As a fan who has followed Ozuna’s meteoric rise to fame, it is truly exciting to see him bring his personal story to the big screen with the upcoming film “ODISEA.” Having dominated the Latin music scene for nearly a decade now, Ozuna’s life journey serves as an inspiring testament to perseverance and hard work.
The multiple Grammy-winning Latin musician, Ozuna, is preparing to share his real-life experiences on the silver screen through the movie titled “ODISEA“. In this upcoming feature film, Ozuna will take on the role of himself, recounting events from his own life.
Under the moniker of ODISEA, inspired by the hit debut album of Puerto Rican musician, marks the initial production he will be putting out through his company Bear with Oz Films. Renowned Spanish filmmaker Alexis Morantet, a Latin Grammy recipient for his work on the documentary “What I Was Is What I Am“, is slated to take the director’s chair; check out the teaser for his forthcoming documentary about esteemed Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz above.
The movie ‘ODISEA’ narrates an uplifting tale, drawing inspiration from the life of one of the most influential figures in today’s global Latin music scene. The story unfolds the journey of a character named Jan Carlos as he transforms into ‘Ozuna’, navigating through a life filled with highs and lows, both in his personal life and his musical career. This tumultuous journey is marked by learning experiences, obstacles, overcoming challenges, love, and most importantly, immense humility and determination.
Recently, Ozuna had an interview with The Hollywood Reporter where he discussed the idea behind the project and the effort that went into making the movie.
ODISEA is a venture we poured our hearts into, with the aspiration that my journey could spark motivation in children and young adults, encouraging them to persist in chasing their dreams without giving up until they realize them,” he shared in an interview. “Regardless of the hurdles life throws at us, we all possess the power to persevere and succeed. I stand as proof of that.
Nearly a decade back, Ozuna stirred up quite a storm in the Latin music industry, ultimately securing a record deal with Sony Music Latin in 2017. Since then, he has notched up an impressive 29 Top 10 hits on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, with five of these being No. 1 singles. Additionally, he boasts five No. 1 positions on the Top Latin Albums chart, with his album “ODISEA” holding the top spot for a remarkable 46 weeks. To add to this, Ozuna is a two-time winner at the Latin Grammy Awards.
The movie titled ODISEA was shot in the Dominican Republic, New York, and Puerto Rico, places where Ozuna spent his childhood as he was born there at the age of 32. This will be his sixth role in a film, following appearances in F9, Tom and Jerry, Father of the Bride, Que León, and Que Leones. The soundtrack includes Ozuna’s greatest hits and original music created specifically for this movie. However, the release date for both cinemas and streaming platforms has yet to be disclosed.
ODISEA’s cast includes Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Dania Ramírez, Ana María Estupiñán, Jencarlos Canela, Jessica Cediel, Laura Gómez, Israel Lugo, Sawandi Wilson and Milly Quezada, who is known as the Queen of Merengue. The script was written by David Maler and Almudena Ramírez.)
Morantet recently spoke with THR about bringing Ozuna’s story to the screen.
Speaking with THR, Morante shared that directing the movie “ODISEA” was a multi-faceted challenge, blending artistic and technical elements. We filmed in Santo Domingo, San Juan (Puerto Rico), and New York, working alongside an elite team from Caribbean Films. This film presents an innovative approach to storytelling, aiming to capture the spirit of a popular music icon who, rather than abandoning his roots, emphasizes them within a heartfelt and inspiring narrative. The movie is a work of cinematic fiction, but it repeatedly blurs the line between reality and fiction, featuring an actor portraying his own life in an unprecedented way.
