As a seasoned traveler and avid reader of literature, I find myself captivated by the upcoming Netflix release, “Lonely Planet”. Having traversed countless continents and read countless novels, I can attest to the profound impact both can have on one’s life. The synopsis of this film, with its focus on a writer’s retreat in Morocco and the ensuing romantic entanglements, resonates deeply with my own experiences.
A reclusive novelist is looking to conquer her writer’s block but unexpectedly finds a connection in the trailer for Netflix‘s Lonely Planet.
In the movie, both Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth appear, with Dern playing Katherine, a writer, who journeys to a distinguished writing sanctuary in Morocco, seeking solitude to overcome her writer’s block and complete her book. However, an unforeseen event occurs when she encounters Owen (Hemsworth), who is at the retreat with his partner. As they spend more time interacting, their bond deepens.
In simpler terms, “Katherine expresses that the purpose of traveling is to help us understand our insignificant spot within the world.” Later, it’s mentioned that when someone feels trapped in their life, they should take a drastic action.
Towards the close of the trailer, there’s a hint that the bond between Katherine and Owen could deepen significantly. Netflix tantalizes viewers by suggesting their relationship might involve a passionate, potentially world-changing romance.
The movie is helmed by Susannah Grant, who has previously collaborated with the streaming platform on the drama series “Unbelievable.” Liza Chasin takes on production duties for 3dot Productions, a company with a multi-year first-look deal with the streaming service. Additionally, Grant and Sarah Timberman will produce, while Kira Goldberg is slated to supervise for Netflix.
Lonely Planet premieres October 11 on Netflix.
