- League of Masters: Auto Chess is out now, worldwide on Android and PC
- It offers up an alternative to other major-name auto chess battlers
- Featuring PvE, PvP and raids, among other game modes
As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for indie titles and a history of dabbling in auto-battlers, I must say that the arrival of League of Masters: Auto Chess feels like a breath of fresh air. Having been on the hunt for an alternative to the big-name auto-chess battlers, this newcomer seems to be just what the doctor ordered.
It turns out that when a game is referred to as an auto chess battler, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a form of chess. Instead, the term encompasses games such as Teamfight Tactics and Magic Chess: Go Go, which feature characters competing against each other on a grid board, rather than the traditional chess setup you might think of.
However, you might have observed that many of these are centered around well-known brands. Yet, opportunities for those eager to support independent developers in this field have been scarce. But starting today, League of Masters: Auto Chess is now available globally on both Android and PC devices, offering a chance to do just that!
Exploring beyond popular titles, League of Masters presents an engaging option with Player versus Player (PvP), Player versus Environment (PvE), a variety of characters and commanders to guide, all while battling it out across 135 arenas. The name might remind you of something familiar, but its gameplay is distinct and credible.
Checkmate
I’ve had my doubts about auto battlers overall, but I must admit, the team at Ravenage Games deserves some recognition. Combining role-playing game (RPG) mechanics with an auto chess battle concept is innovative and captures my attention. It will be exciting to see how players respond to this unique approach. On one hand, not being linked to a widely recognized megahit like League of Legends could mean more originality; on the other, it might mean less initial exposure.
