For many fans of Michael Crichton’s original Jurassic Park novel, there is one scene that has elusively avoided being included in any of the movies, but that is about to be corrected with
. The river escape, which in the book sees Alan Grant, Tim and Lex avoiding a number of Dilphosaurs and the persistent attention of the Tyrannosaur, is being reimagined for the new movie, and also in a new LEGO set which has revealed a first look at this iconic lost moment.
1993’s Jurassic Park took several key points of Crichton’s novel and crafted in into a truly ground-breaking movie by Steven Spielberg. However, there were a number of moments that did not make the cut, including a tense Pterodactyl aviary scene – which would become one of the best moments in the divisive Jurassic Park III – and an opening moment when a young girl is attacked on a secluded beach – the opening of 1997’s The Lost World, which itself was based on Crichton’s sequel novel. Now the final big missing scene of the river escape is getting its moment to shine. For the LEGO iteration of this, the description reads:
“Kids and movie fans aged 5 and up can play out an exciting scene from the Jurassic World Rebirth movie or create their own dinosaur stories with this detailed T. rex River Escape (76975) LEGO® Jurassic World building set. This easy-to-build birthday gift playset features a molded T. rex toy for kids, with movable arms, legs, tail, head and jaw, plus 2 minifigures: Teresa Delgado and Xavier Dobbs. There’s a shed that can be ‘destroyed’, a boat launcher, boat and ATV toy vehicles and much more.”
‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Will Bring the Franchise Back to Its Roots
The Jurassic World franchise has been a financial success, but in many ways the story has become secondary to the need to put more and more dinosaurs on screen in increasingly choreographed action sequences. From dino team-ups to motorbike chases through populated streets, the spectacle of the Jurassic World movies has been enough to sustain the franchise through some rough reviews, but this year’s entry is set to bring back several key Jurassic Park players in the production team to deliver something that is more satisfying to those not just looking for a strong hint of nostalgia.
With a strong cast led by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, Jurassic World Rebirth has pulled original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp back into the franchise, and with Gareth Edwards behind the camera, there is a lot of expectation on this movie doing something different to the previous Jurassic World movies. Edwards has already made a huge impact on the Star Wars franchise as the director of Rogue One, and essentially kick-started the MonsterVerse with his version of Godzilla. What he can do for the Jurassic saga will be revealed this summer when dinosaurs once again rule the world.
