Leonardo DiCaprio, Diplo Support CORE Fundraiser at Art Basel Miami, Raising Over $1M For Emergency Response

As a seasoned gamer with a heart for philanthropy, I must admit that attending the CORE gala during Art Basel Miami was an unforgettable experience! The star-studded event, filled with celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio and Alessandra Ambrosio, not to mention the legendary Jewel serenading us with her hits, was a sight to behold.

Last Thursday evening, CORE – the charitable organization for emergency response, jointly established by Sean Penn and Ann Lee – hosted its fourth fundraising event during Art Basel Miami. The glamorous gathering attracted celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Diplo, Carmelo Anthony, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Soleil Moon Frye.

As a gamer, I was thrilled to attend an incredible event that had Hollywood Reporter as its media partner. This gathering managed to raise an astounding $1 million! The funds will be channeled towards CORE’s key initiatives: swiftly responding to crises, lessening the effects of climate change on vulnerable communities, and expanding health resources for those most in need.

The evening commenced with cocktails on the beach accompanied by music from DJ Mia Moretti, leading to a dinner where seats were set and an auction took place, showcasing artworks created by artists like Astro and Max Hooper Schneider. A notable highlight was a portrait of Queen Elizabeth by British contemporary artist Chris Levine, embellished with real diamonds, which fetched $100,000 at the auction titled “Equanimity (CORE Gala), 2024”.

As a dedicated fan, I found myself eagerly anticipating the event, knowing that Diplo would kick things off with an intro for Lee since Penn was unavoidably absent. The captivating Garcelle Beauvais graced us with her presence to bring the program to a close. Then, the enchanting Jewel took center stage, treating us to a mesmerizing medley of acoustic tunes. She began with “Over the Rainbow,” effortlessly transitioned into her soul-stirring hits “Who Will Save Your Soul” and “Hands.” The night reached its climax when she surprised us all by auctioning off the guitar she had played during her breathtaking performance, making it an unforgettable evening.

Jewel shared her longstanding admiration for Sean’s work, expressing that she has been tracking his journey since his initial involvement in Haiti. Over the years, she has grown quite fond of Ann as well. Speaking about her desire to participate in the event, she remarked, “I am consistently amazed by this organization, as they tackle a variety of challenges every time due to the uniqueness of each disaster they face. I find their adaptability and problem-solving skills truly remarkable.

At the event, Hollywood lawyer Mathew Rosengart, a partner at Greenberg Traurig and counsel for CORE’s litigation, was also recognized. “I am profoundly touched to be represented by and acknowledged by CORE,” said Rosengart, “an organization of dedicated humanitarians whose influence has moved me greatly.” This is an organization that courageously ventures into critical situations to aid communities in dire need, particularly those often overlooked or underprivileged. I’ve personally seen CORE’s actions – both in Haiti in 2018 and during the pandemic when they swiftly expanded to offer free COVID-19 vaccinations and tests. At the event, Alessandra Ambrosio, Casey Affleck, Cecilia Renes, Craig Robins, Diplo, Francesca Giustra, Francisco Costa, Garcelle Beauvais, Jared Leto, Jon Bon Jovi, Jorge Perez, Michael Mann, Soleil Moon Frye, and Vivi Nevo all took on leadership roles.
