Let Bob Vylan Speak!

The modern Left will only defend free speech when its own denizens are under attack.

For several years now, it’s a fact that has been repeatedly observed and is no longer up for discussion: Conservatives have frequently faced censorship on social media, including instances where the conservative president of the United States was banned from those platforms.

Crickets.

A sexually explicit book gets removed from a school library’s shelf?

Book banning!

Similarly, it’s not uncommon for the Left to fiercely argue in defense when confronted with extreme, anti-Semitic remarks. Prepare for similar reactions after Bob Vylan‘s controversial act at the Glastonbury Festival over the weekend.

At their UK festival performance, the duo criticized Israel’s military aggression, expressing support for Palestine, as spectators brandished Palestinian flags. The hip-hop artists repeatedly called out “Freedom, freedom for Palestine” and “Down with the IDF.

And, of course, they chanted, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”

The powerful images by themselves call for examination, and both the BBC and local police hint that Vylan’s speech might need a deeper probe. In fact, the BBC has pledged to withhold this content from future airings.

The latter?

As a passionate cinephile, I found myself intrigued earlier today by news that surfaced only hours ago. Avon and Somerset Police are currently scrutinizing footage captured on the film set, aiming to ascertain if any illegal activities took place during the filming process.

England’s strict “freedom of speech” regulations may imprison individuals for using the wrong words. The country has a dual system where Team Vylan might not face any issues, but those who criticize authority or express concerns about unrestricted immigration should be cautious when speaking in public.

Deeply.

The main concern at hand revolves around the use of speech, as it’s shocking to witness such raw, unrestrained hostility being expressed. However, what’s even more concerning is the favorable response these rappers received from the audience.

The Palestinian flags weren’t magically produced; it was obvious that the crowd anticipated some actions to symbolize the current issue at hand. And the musicians, including Kneecap, certainly lived up to those expectations.

It’s crucial for us to realize there are individuals like these musicians. It’s heart-wrenching that no artist from the affected event made a statement following the horrific attack by Hamas terrorists at a music festival on October 7, 2023, where many innocent lives were lost.

It’s crucial that we witness large crowds enthusiastically supporting acts like Bob Vylan and similar musicians. It’s educational, it’s significant.

Seeing a sea of music fans enthusiastically applauding for artists such as Bob Vylan and their peers is essential. It’s instructive, it carries importance.

What we do next as a culture matters.

It’s important not to suppress their voices, but rather amplify them, as Andrew Breitbart once said. The kind of ignorance and anti-Semitism we’re dealing with can’t just be swept under the carpet.

We’ll have to face it sooner or later.
