Level Devil review – “Totally NOT trolling you”

Level Devil review - "Totally NOT trolling you"

  • A non-troll game for troll lovers
  • A series of platforming levels switching up designs and controls
  • Rage alone or with another innocent soul

As a seasoned gamer with decades of pixelated battles under my belt, I must say Level Devil has caught my attention like a moth to a flame – or perhaps more accurately, like a restless soul to the gates of Hell.

Level Devil isn’t a typical troll game… Instead, your childhood pets are peacefully enjoying their golden years up in the moon. It’s natural for us to think something is the exact opposite of what it claims, but here, quite the contrary seems to be true.

In essence, the game is titled “Level Devil” by Unept. This is a straightforward 2D pixel platformer designed for mobile devices, where the objective is to travel from one point to another. Despite its seemingly uncomplicated nature, it’s crucial we never underestimate again. Therefore, let’s find out what challenging levels this seemingly harmless game has in store for us.

About Level Devil

Occasionally, a platformer’s narrative can be as straightforward as, “This character is currently here, but they must get to there.” In the case of Level Devil, while it might have intricate backstories, what we experience primarily revolves around its surface elements. You could find yourself inadvertently caught in a realm akin to Hell, ruled by or under the watchful eye of the devil, if such a being exists.

To progress and find your escape, you must navigate each stage that lies ahead, but remember, things are rarely as they first appear. As a spirit, there’s no reason to fear losing chances or opportunities since the concept of running out is irrelevant in an eternal setting like this. After all, what would be the purpose of endless suffering if it could be ended by stepping back from one small challenge?

On the level with Level Devil

Despite the initial obstacles created by numerous trolls, which might make it difficult to view the game at first, remember this is designed as the first challenge. Level Devil aims for a gradual increase in difficulty, ensuring neither an abundance of easy nor overly challenging levels. The objective is to acclimate you to the game’s level of difficulty so you can play effectively and enjoy the experience.

If you get angry while playing the game, it’s not uncommon, but it’s important to remember that the game isn’t intentionally frustrating you (or at least, not on purpose during gameplay).

What adds to the challenge is the variety of the mechanics which affect both the level design and the controls accordingly. You never know what kind of curveball the game will throw at you or from what direction – or if it’s even a ball. You can be dealing with falling and rising sections in one place only to be completely robbed of basic movement in another. The trick is trying to figure out just how the game can mess with you as it puts you into different boxes.
A small grievance is how the free version of the game works. At certain points or after too many deaths, an ad will play. The problem is that while the option to skip a level via ad is available, the automatic ads that play will skip you ahead too, even if you’ve only died a few times. At least trust me to give up on my terms, you troll…I mean devil.

Challenging the Level Devil

In simpler terms, Level Devil is a 2D platform game that doesn’t play tricks on you. It consists of multiple stages filled with creative challenges. The mix of mechanics and controls keeps you engaged and offers a decent level of difficulty. As you get the hang of it, you might find yourself speeding through the game, either due to your own skill or the ads encouraging you. Although not as infuriating as some older games, there’s still a bit of ‘devilishness’ hidden within each level’s design.
