Lex Luthor’s Epic Return Teased in R-Rated Superman Series – Find Out What’s Next!

It is possible that Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor could make another appearance in a future R-rated series following his role in Superman. Previously known for his role as a mutant in the X-Men, Hoult became the first live-action villain in the DC Universe when he portrayed Luthor, attempting to tarnish David Corenswet’s Superman reputation and nearly destroying Earth with his destructive pocket universe.

In the movie “Superman,” when Lex Luthor was apprehended following his attempt to devastate Earth, the soldier escorting him into a truck casually remarked, “Send that bald head of his to Belle Reve.” Notably, Belle Reve has served as a detention center for numerous villains in both the old DCEU and the broader DCU. However, it holds a unique significance within the DC Universe as the residence of the Creature Commandos.

In the delightful turn of events I experienced in December 2024, I was thrilled to learn that the adult-oriented animated series on HBO Max, which I had grown quite fond of, had been granted a second season! This means the enigmatic Bride will return to grace our screens once more, leading an extraordinary new team. Among them are Doctor Phosphorus, Nosferata, Khalis, Weasel, G.I. Robot, and none other than King Shark himself! I can hardly wait to see what adventures await this dynamic group!

Frank Grillo previously starred as Rick Flag Sr. in the movie “Creature Commandos”, and later appeared in “Superman” portraying a character who was initially skeptical about Superman’s abilities. For a brief period, he collaborated with Luthor and Planetwatch to interrogate the Man of Steel.

In Season 1, Flag Sr. sustained severe injuries that forced him out of play, but he’s now ready for action and is set to return in August during Season 2 of “Peacemaker”. His aim? To even the score with John Cena’s character, Christopher Smith, who was responsible for the death of his son.

Significantly, Rick Flag Sr. serves as the common character connecting the teams of Creature Commandos, Peacemaker, and even Superman. Previously, he has collaborated with Luthor. Though he might not be overly keen on the tech tycoon after creating a rift in the planet, he could potentially seek his help in critical situations.

In a similar vein, Circe, one of the formidable antagonists from the Creature Commandos, is presently confined in Belle Reve. With such a roster of significant adversaries under one roof, there’s a possibility that they might encounter each other. Given this accumulation of key villains, it could pave the way for them to unite and potentially form the Legion of Doom, serving as a Thanos-like threat in the DCU’s initial chapter.

In the movie “Superman,” Lex Luthor was one of seven villains, and Michael Shannon’s performance as Superman’s longtime adversary has been cherished by numerous fans ever since the DC Universe blockbuster began screening in cinemas.

The CEO of LuthorCorp is being confronted by a collection of heroes, which includes David Corenswet as Superman, Nathan Fillion portraying Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced depicting Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi playing Mr. Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan in the role of Metamorpho.

Why Lex Luthor Could Also Appear in Peacemaker Season 2

However, it’s quite possible that Lex Luthor may make a comeback in Peacemaker Season 2 as early as this summer – with the new season set to debut on August 21.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn hinted that Peacemaker’s high-tech closet from Season 1, which is situated within a pocket dimension, will be the main focus or pivotal point in Season 2. Given that this technology played a significant role in Luthor’s schemes in Superman, there’s a possibility he might get involved in the storyline.

In the first season of “Peacemaker”, you were introduced to a device known as the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, or QUC. This technology is further explored in “Superman”. For the second season of “Peacemaker”, the QUC takes center stage in the storyline.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement when I learned that the DC Studios head hinted at more appearances of the Superman character and other DCU heroes in Peacemaker. He specifically teased a “one really, really, really big cameo near the end,” which has me eagerly counting down the days!

Throughout the series, you’ll encounter various characters hailing from Superman’s universe, such as Isabela, Nathan, and Sean. Later on, a host of other characters from different corners of the DCU and Superman make an appearance. Towards the finale, there might be a highly anticipated cameo that’s quite significant.

If the core of Peacemaker’s recent storyline involves pocket dimension technology, it might be possible to seek Luthor’s advice, even from prison, since he is an authority on this subject.

It’s worth considering the possibility that Peacemaker’s significant appearance might in fact reveal a prominent Justice League member who hasn’t been introduced into the DC Universe yet.

In either Creature Commandos or Peacemaker, Nicholas Hoult’s reprisal of Luthor could represent his debut in an R-rated role. This switch would provide James Gunn with the opportunity to delve into a more mature aspect of the DC Universe’s most notorious antagonist.
