Liam Neeson’s New Action Movie Is Already a Surprise Hit

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I can’t help but be thrilled about Liam Neeson’s latest action flick! It’s already making waves as a PVOD sensation and will be available digitally from July 1st, following a brief stint in select theaters. With its captivating plot and Neeson’s mesmerizing performance, it won’t be long before this movie climbs to the top of the box office charts. Can’t wait to watch it!

As of now, “Ice Road: Vengeance” ranks 14th on the iTunes Top Movies chart in the U.S., climbing one spot from yesterday and two spots from Wednesday. If this upward trend continues, it seems likely that the movie will break into the Top 10 by next week. Originally titled “The Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky” when first announced in 2023, this long-awaited sequel features the return of Jonathan Hensleigh as writer and director, as well as Liam Neeson reprising his role as big rig driver Mike McCann. The setting for the action has shifted from Canada to Nepal in this installment.

Mike McCann journeys to Nepal to spread his deceased brother’s remains on Mt. Everest. However, his journey takes a tragic twist when the tour bus he rides, filled with passengers, gets seized by brutal mercenaries. This forces him and his guide, Dhani (played by Fan Bingbing), to take control of the situation themselves. The action-packed thriller additionally features Bernard Curry as Professor Myers, Geoff Morrell as Spike, Mahesh Jadu as Rudra Yash, Saksham Sharma as Vijay Rai, and other notable actors.

Ice Road: Vengeance Is Liam Neeson’s First Action Sequel Since Taken 3

Liam Neeson is often chosen to star in action films, yet he doesn’t typically participate in many sequels within that genre. The Taken trilogy stands as his only franchise experience so far. Nevertheless, he has been part of various action spin-offs or reboots, such as Men in Black: International (2019) and The A-Team (2010). He also played a supporting role as Zeus in Clash of the Titans (2010) and its sequel, Wrath of the Titans (2012).

Fans won’t have to endure an 11-year wait for Liam Neeson’s action series to undergo a transformation. Instead, within a month, he will assume the lead role in the The Naked Gun series, inheriting the character of Leslie Nielsen’s son, Frank Drebin Jr. This new series promises to be more violent and action-packed than Nielsen’s film trilogy, while still maintaining the satirical elements that contributed to the franchise’s popularity.

Akiva Schaffer, famously recognized as a founding member of the comedy group The Lonely Island and director of films like “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping” (2016) and “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” (2022), also directed “The Naked Gun.” He collaborated on the script with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. For the sequel, actors such as Paul Walter Hauser, playing Captain Ed Hocken Jr., the son of George Kennedy’s character from the original trilogy; Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, YouTuber Liza Koshy, WWE wrestler Cody Rhodes, CCH Pounder, and professional rapper Busta Rhymes have joined the cast.

Ice Road: Vengeance is available to rent or own on VOD platforms.
