As a design enthusiast with a penchant for unique, functional, and versatile pieces, I find myself captivated by the Ridgewood-based Lichen’s latest creation – the Pitch Pendant Lamp. Having traversed various urban jungles in search of innovative lighting solutions, I can confidently say that this lamp is a breath of fresh air.
Located in Ridgewood, Queens, Lichen proudly showcases an extensive collection of internal lighting solutions, ranging from their “Puddle Sconce,” a combination of resin and steel, to smaller sconces crafted from wood or metal. They’ve expanded this selection with the introduction of the Pitch Pendant Lamp.
This intriguing Pitch Pendant Lamp was brought to life by the joint efforts of three talented designers: Onea Clare, Aidan Elias, and Alvaro Ucha Rodriguez. By blending textiles, engineering, and industrial design, they’ve crafted a versatile lighting solution. As Aidan Elias put it, this lamp is designed to be effortlessly moved from one location to another, quickly set up to provide illumination for any scenario.
The flexibility in design is due to the Pitch Pendant Lamp’s frame made of fiberglass rods, accented with metal elements, and covered by a ripstop nylon shroud. This unique combination takes inspiration from camping tents, studio lighting, and garden structures, resulting in a shape that provides a gentle, warm glow. As Elias explains, the allure was in crafting a ceiling light fixture that could be easily assembled independently.
If you’re looking to add the Pitch Pendant Lamp to your home, office, or wherever else your life requires a little extra illumination, it’s available for $399 USD via the Lichen webstore and studio (564 Woodward Ave, Ridgewood, NY, 11385). It measures 36″L x 31″W x 10″H and has a bulb and a 20-foot cord. The included cord can be cut by an electrician as well if you’re interested in hardwiring it into an existing wall fixture.
