As a fan who’s followed Lil Wayne’s career since his days in New Orleans, it’s been a rollercoaster of emotions seeing him go from the Superdome to the world stage and back again. It’s heartbreaking to see Weezy express his pain over not getting the Halftime Show gig at Super Bowl LIX, especially when it was set to happen in his hometown. But hey, if anyone can bounce back, it’s the man who gave us “Lollipop” and “A Milli.” Here’s hoping Lil Wayne gets another chance to shine on that stage, maybe even with a Skittles rainstorm or a million-dollar watch as a prop. After all, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade…and then you ask for the Super Bowl Halftime Show! #WeWantWeezyOnTheSuperBowl!
Lil Wayne has spoken up for the first time about being passed over for the Super Bowl Half-time show in 2025, which will take place in his hometown of New Orleans during the LIX championship. Kendrick Lamar was announced as the headliner for that event earlier this week and he also released a new song while people were discussing who should perform.
In an Instagram video, Lil Wayne expresses his emotions over learning that Kendrick Lamar got the opportunity instead of him for the Super Bowl LIX performance. He begins by acknowledging the time he needed to gather strength, “I apologize for the delay in addressing this. I had to find the courage not to break while discussing it. Thank you to everyone who has offered their support and encouragement – your words have given me the strength when I felt like giving up.
Earlier this week, Nicki Minaj expressed her support for Lil Wayne on social media platform X, saying: “You don’t grasp even half of what Lil Wayne has accomplished for me and others. Wayne gave Drake and I a tour spot without any contracts in place. He was featured on all my mixtapes without any contracts signed. This man single-handedly revolutionized hip hop and hairstyles too. If you know, you know. He inspired countless people to tattoo their faces and grow dreadlocks. He influenced many of your favorite artists to aspire to be great MCs. Lil Wayne has never been motivated by money; it’s always been about the love for music.
Previously, Lil Wayne has frequently voiced his wish to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show for several years. The upcoming Super Bowl LIX is scheduled for February 9, 2025. Here’s the full video of what Weezy had to share.
