As a die-hard fan of the original “Freaky Friday” movie, I must admit I was initially disappointed to learn that Chad Michael Murray’s character, Jake, will not be marrying Lindsay Lohan’s character, Anna, in the upcoming sequel. However, upon hearing that Jamie Lee Curtis‘ Tess will be reuniting with her on-screen daughter and the arrival of Manny Jacinto as a new cast member, my excitement has been rekindled!
I regret to inform fans of Anna and Jake’s relationship in Freaky Friday, but it seems that Chad Michael Murray’s character will not be married to Lindsay Lohan’s character Anna in the new sequel titled Freakier Friday.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lohan and her on-screen mom, Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess, disclosed that Anna is married to the character portrayed by Manny Jacinto, who has not been publicly identified at this time.
“Manny portrays Lindsay’s husband on screen, but their relationship off-set remains undisclosed as filming is ongoing,” Curtis shared with the press, noting that Manny is charming and hilarious according to Lindsay.
Fans eagerly awaited the news when Disney announced that Jamie Lee Curtis (Jake) would reprise her role in the sequel of Freaky Friday, with hopes of seeing Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis’ characters reunite, two decades after the first movie.
It seems that they won’t be in a romantic relationship, but Curtis hinted playfully, “It looks like Chad is involved, and let me tell you, Chad is definitely involved.”
For the sequel, not just Lohan, Curtis, and Murray are coming back; they’ll also be reunited with original stars like Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. Additionally, we have some fresh faces joining the cast, including Jacinto, Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.
The sequel to “Freaky Friday” takes place some time later, with Tess and Anna having swapped bodies in the past. Currently, Anna has a daughter of her own and is soon to have a stepdaughter. As they both deal with the complexities that arise when two families unite, it’s suggested that similar events may occur again, as the film summary suggests: “Tess and Anna find out that perhaps lightning can strike twice.”
Apart from Jacinto being cast as Lohan’s onscreen spouse, specific information about the characters played by Butters, Hammons, and Ramakrishnan remains undisclosed. However, it’s speculated that at least one of them might portray Lohan’s daughter, while another could be her prospective stepdaughter in the storyline.
The creators of the original movie are Curtis, Kristin Burr, and Andrew Gunn. In the sequel, Lindsay Lohan, Nathan Kelly, and Ann Marie Sanderlin have taken on executive producer roles. The director for the sequel is Nisha Ganatra, who previously worked on “Welcome to Chippendales”.
Freakier Friday will hit theaters sometime in 2025.
