Lindsay Lohan & Jamie Lee Curtis Swap Bodies Again in ‘Freakier Friday’ Sneak Peek at CinemaCon!

For approximately two decades since the amusing body swap in “Freaky Friday” starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, they are set to reprise their roles for a new installment titled “Freakier Friday”. The leading ladies showcased sneak peeks of Disney’s upcoming production at CinemaCon. Originally, in the 2003 hit comedy, Lohan and Curtis portrayed mother-daughter duo Anna and Tess who mysteriously switched bodies after an argument at a Chinese restaurant, courtesy of enchanted fortune cookies. The sequel takes things to another level with a double body swap: not only are Anna and Tess involved, but also Anna’s daughter and step-daughter.

In the following video clip, as described by Discussing Film, we find Lindsay Lohan’s character Anna, Jessica Alba’s character Tess, and Chad Michael Murray’s character Jake back together again. During the presentation, Disney Distribution Chief Andrew Cripps shared this footage with us.

Since revealing our project, there’s been an amazing reaction across various online platforms. It’s truly heartwarming to see the immense affection people have towards our two prominent figures.

In this scene, the video displays an unusual four-person body swap: Anna trades places with her daughter Julia Butters, whereas Tess and Anna’s new stepdaughter Sophia Hammons end up in each other’s bodies. Anna is seen trying to flirt with Jake, but he appears puzzled by her advances, and at one moment, he assumes that Anna might be having a stroke when she attempts to bite her lip. The interaction between them becomes even more tense when Jake queries Tess about whether she’s still with her spouse (Mark Harmon). Finally, the audience at CinemaCon witnesses snippets of Tess and Jake socializing in various settings while Chappell Roan’s “Hot To Go” is playing as the soundtrack.

Anticipation for ‘Freakier Friday’ is Building

As a cinema enthusiast, I’m truly thrilled about the upcoming sequel of “Freaky Friday“, especially considering its high anticipation this year. Given the original’s impressive success, the decade-long wait, and Lindsay Lohan’s long-awaited big-screen comeback, it’s no wonder fans are eagerly waiting. Based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel, “Freaky Friday” grossed a staggering $160 million worldwide (on a budget of approximately 25 million dollars). The film was critically acclaimed and resonated with audiences. Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis were lauded for their performances, with the latter even receiving a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical. During their presentation, they both expressed their joy about reprising their roles as Anna and Tess.

Lohan expressed that it has been truly incredible to step back into the roles of both Anna and Tess, as she couldn’t find the words to fully convey her feelings about this experience.

On the contrary, I don’t usually wear those shoes for extended periods. However, this coming Friday promises a unique twist since there will be twice as many outfit changes. You’re in for an unprecedented view of me, courtesy of a daring adolescent-inspired transformation, Curtis mentioned.

In 2003, Mark Waters directed “Freaky Friday,” but for the upcoming sequel, it will be Misha Ganatra (“Late Night”) in charge. The official synopsis of the movie goes like this:

(Sequel Synopsis) A magical twist once again swaps the bodies of a mother and daughter, but this time, they must navigate their new lives while dealing with the challenges of their relationship and finding a way back to each other.

After several years have passed since Tess and Anna faced their identity struggles, Anna now has a child of her own and is about to gain a stepdaughter. As they work through the difficulties of blending their families, it becomes clear to them that similar complexities may arise again. In other words, it seems that fate could bring another crisis into their lives.

In addition to Curtis, Lohan, and Murray, the cast of “Freakier Friday” includes Manny Jacinto (known from “The Good Place”), Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (who stars in “Never Have I Ever”), Julia Butters (featured in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”), Mark Harmon (popular for his role in “NCIS”), and Chloe Fineman (a cast member of “Saturday Night Live”). The movie, titled “Freakier Friday,” will hit theaters on August 8, 2025.
