Lingerie Steals the Spotlight at the 2025 Grammys: A Night of Unexpected Fashion!

Over the past few years, it’s clear that lingerie has been influencing fashion trends, especially among concert performers and attendees who have been to events like Coachella, Burning Man, or Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet tour. In fact, if you’ve seen any of these tours, you might notice that the Grammy-winning Sabrina Carpenter often wears a variety of bodysuits, corsets adorned with crystals, garters, and other designs inspired by lingerie.

It’s not surprising, given the event, that various types of undergarments like bras, panties, corsets, and more were prevalent, earning the nickname “the Underwear Awards” at Crypto.com Arena on Sunday night. Notably, during Charli XCX’s final song “Brat,” it started to rain undergarments from the stage, with Victoria’s Secret and their sister brand PINK donating over 10,000 pairs of panties to shower the artist and models, including media personality Julia Fox, as they danced suggestively amid a party-like atmosphere mirroring the song’s music video.

A small notice on the screen told viewers that the unused panties used for stage decoration would be given to the I Support the Girls foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to providing undergarments and menstrual supplies to women and girls living in shelters.

As a fan, I couldn’t help but be captivated by the ultimate highlight of an evening where lingerie details reigned supreme – both on the red carpet and stage. I found myself mesmerized by Willow Smith’s McQueen tailored coat gracefully draped over a custom-embellished Fleur du Mal bra and panty set, adorned with sparkling crystal beads. In contrast, Fox donned a sheer black dress and jacket paired with matching bra and undergarments. Unfortunately, Bianca Censori, who followed in Kanye West’s life, opted out of the underwear trend in a similar look for the event.

As a fashion enthusiast, I couldn’t help but notice the resurgence of the corset in this year’s high-profile outfits. From Taylor Swift’s bold lipstick-red Vivienne Westwood minidress to Doechii’s striking gray pinstripe corset dress, and even Charli XCX’s gown by Jean Paul Gaultier straight from the haute-couture collection designed by Ludovic de Saint Sernin (unveiled in Paris on Jan. 29), it seems that artists are embracing the corset as a way to infuse lingerie elegance into their ensembles, without veering towards an overtly bare aesthetic.

Waist cinchers, similar to corsets, were noticeable in some outfits. For instance, Clairo’s polka-dot dress by Miss Claire Sullivan, as well as Alicia Keys’ wide gold-filigree belt with Dolce & Gabbana Alto Moda, although not strictly waist cinchers, had a shape and width that strongly suggested the concept.

The performances seemed to reinforce the notion that revealing outfits, like wearing only a bra and underwear, have become not just a trend but perhaps an expectation in the music industry. For instance, Chappell Roan sang “Pink Pony Club” in a bronze metallic corset ensemble, while Doechii, during her performances of “Catfish” and “Denial is a River,” and her backup dancers transformed their numbers into a striking Thom Browne ad campaign. To conclude, Doechii ended the performance in a custom white cotton jockstrap brief and matching demi-cup bra designed by Thom Browne.

Sabrina Carpenter kicked off her performances of “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” in a mini-tuxedo designed by Dolce & Gabbana, then switched to a blue beaded corset outfit also provided by the Italian brand. Finally, Charli XCX closed the night in a denim bra and underwear set with a matching belted jacket, all from Dior’s “Street Chic” collection for spring/summer 2002.

Approximately two and a half decades have passed, and the Dior theme now seems incredibly forward-thinking. Although lingerie isn’t a novelty in the music world (Madonna can attest to that if anyone doubts), its impact on concert style and artists’ fashion is currently overwhelming. In fact, underwear appears to be falling from the heavens at concerts.
