As a diehard Elden Ring enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned about an upcoming live-action movie adaptation! The mastermind behind Ex Machina and Civil War, Alex Garland, is taking the helm for this project, with Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. and A24 on board as well. This news was announced just yesterday!
It has been officially confirmed that a movie adaptation of the popular RPG game from FromSoftware and Bandai Namco will be helmed by the same director who will also serve as the screenwriter.
Plot, casting details, or a release date for the Elden Ring movie have yet to be announced.
George R. R. Martin, a key figure behind the initial concept of Elden Ring, has been signed on as a producer for the upcoming film, just like Vince Gerardis.
Alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA, Peter Rice of DNA is set to contribute to the production. At this point, it’s unclear to what extent FromSoftware or game director Hidetaka Miyazaki will participate in the project.
2022 saw Elden Ring make a significant impact on the gaming community, as FromSoftware introduced their challenging gameplay style to an open-world setting.
That is, until 2024, when Martin teased that he may have heard a few details about a potential Elden Ring movie, sending fans down a rabbit hole as they hoped to see the iconic FromSoftware title eventually grace movie theater screens. He went on to double down on his comments earlier this year, saying during iggn.ru Fan Fest 2025 that he had heard “some talk” about an Elden Ring movie.
Beyond the realm of films, the game Elden Ring has maintained its appeal to gamers with additional content since its debut. In 2024, an expansion titled “Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree” was released, and next week brings a standalone, multiplayer spinoff named “Elden Ring Nightreign”. While FromSoftware has not yet planned a complete sequel, they are preparing to introduce a version of the original game called “Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition” for the Nintendo Switch 2.
