Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Remake Shelved After ‘Snow White’ Box Office Debacle

Following Snow White‘s lackluster box office performance during its debut weekend, Disney temporarily paused the production of one of their upcoming live-action adaptations. Known for profiting from their well-known IPs whenever possible, it appears that the future of Disney’s live-action films may be uncertain. A concerning update regarding one of their most anticipated remakes, Tangled, has surfaced, leaving fans divided.

Based on a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has temporarily halted production for the live-action version of the 2010 animated movie “Tangled”. Although Michael Gracey (“The Greatest Showman”) was initially set to direct, with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (“Thor: Love and Thunder”) providing the script, the project might be revived at a later time. However, due to the less-than-successful release of “Snow White” and some internal changes within Disney, the remake’s future is uncertain as of now. In other words, “Tangled” will require more than just a long mane to regain its position on Disney’s priority list.

Currently, Disney is actively planning significant promotions for its forthcoming live-action adaptations of both “Lilo & Stitch” and “Moana.” Notably, “Lilo & Stitch” has already broken records for Disney with its first trailer, positioning it to be a blockbuster that will likely recoup its investment multiple times over. As for “Moana,” it features Dwayne Johnson reprising his animated role in live-action and is a remake of a film that remains popular, especially following the success of the sequel which outperformed its competition during the holiday season last year. Given Disney’s current capabilities, it would be quite challenging to botch either of these adaptations.

Is ‘Snow White’ a Box Office Bomb?

More to come.
