Lizzo is releasing a new mixtape this Friday, the singer announced on Instagram Tuesday.
A 37-year-old artist shared the cover art for her upcoming mixtape, which shows her flipping off the camera twice, each time covered by a smiley face. She also posted a picture of the track list and wrote “My Face Hurts From Smiling” as the title of the mixtape, with a release date set for Friday. Doja Cat and SZA are among the featured artists on the 13-song album.
It appears that the mixtape, not previously mentioned, is an extra project alongside her previously announced studio album, “Love in Real Life,” which she revealed earlier this year. The Hollywood Reporter contacted Lizzo’s record label to verify this information.
Back in February, she put out a new song titled after herself, signaling her comeback to both music and public life. This tune has a pop feel with rock undertones, making it the Grammy-winning artist’s first solo single release in close to three years. Since 2022, she hasn’t dropped an album of her own, but she did contribute to the soundtrack for the 2023 movie “Barbie”. Her second single, “Still Bad”, came out in March.
For a while now, Lizzo has been hinting at new tunes. On February 13th, she shared an Instagram video where she was spray-painting and reciting “Bye Bitch” over her 2022 album, “Special,” with the caption: “Closing a Chapter.
To start with, Lizzo hinted at upcoming music during an episode of Keke Palmer’s podcast, titled “Baby, This is Keke Palmer“. In this discussion, she shared her excitement saying, “I have completed my album! I’m so thrilled. Some people believed I took a break, but I was actually in the studio.
In that podcast discussion, Lizzo spoke about the legal action brought against her by certain dance crew members from her tour, who claimed instances of sexual harassment and an unfriendly work environment. She expressed surprise, saying, “I was literally living my dream, and then the tour concluded, and suddenly, three former dancers unexpectedly ambushed me with a lawsuit.
Lizzo informed Palmer that since she had been released from the case, he could ask her anything about it. She further clarified that they were still working on resolving the remaining claims, not abandoning them entirely, but rather having them dropped or dismissed. According to her, this was a significant triumph.
