As a lifelong Marvel fan, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as Dave Bushore embarks on a new journey outside the hallowed halls of Marvel Studios. His 15-year tenure at the studio has been nothing short of legendary, from coordinating for Brad Winderbaum to directing and executive producing groundbreaking projects like “What If…?
Longtime Marvel executive Dave Bushore is exiting the company to discover, and build, new worlds.
After 15 years at the studio, Bushore, in his latest role as VP of Franchise Creative & Immersive Development for Marvel, is now departing with his career at its peak.
He led and oversaw the production of “What If…? – An Interactive Tale”, a collaboration between Marvel Studios and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), specifically designed for Apple Vision Pro. This innovative project was honored with a Creative Arts Emmy in the exceptional innovation in emerging media programming category last weekend. Moreover, it was showcased at the Venice International Film Festival’s “Best of Experiences” Immersive section, making its debut at the festival and one of only 10 immersive projects chosen from around the world.
Bushore shared with The Hollywood Reporter that being invited to Venice was an amazing experience. Witnessing the acceptance of this innovative content, and observing the flow of filmmakers and representatives participating in it, was truly exciting.
And it’s exactly what this self-described “story nerd” wants to do more of.
Bushore won’t be joining a fresh corporation, but rather venturing into uncharted territories. He aims to apply his expertise at the crossroads of technology and innovative audience engagement with brands. His objective is to develop captivating, emotionally impactful, trailblazing projects that continue to expand the horizons of media and entertainment.
In 2009, Bushore began working for Marvel following their release of “The Incredible Hulk”. At that time, he served as a coordinator under Brad Winderbaum, who currently holds the position of head of television, streaming, and animation. Bushore reminisces about watching the initial two “Iron Man” films in the cinema with companions and needing to clarify to them who Nick Fury was.
Over time, his career within the Marvel Cinematic Universe advanced. He worked on various aspects such as home video releases, television specials, planning theme park expansions, and eventually became part of the team responsible for unique projects and ventures beyond conventional movie production.
As a gamer, I can’t wait for more people around the world to uncover and appreciate my “What If…” work. It’s exciting to know that it’s been released internationally in places like Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and the United Kingdom – all territories where Apple Vision Pro is available!
On August 19th, it was revealed that “What If…?” had been chosen as a finalist for the XR Awards, an event honoring excellence in virtual and augmented reality experiences. The winner in the “XR Film & Experience of the Year” category will be announced on December 5th.
Bushore expresses that his involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has significantly expanded his knowledge on constructing worlds and narratives, and he continues to be astounded by the ingenuity of his collaborators.
As a passionate gamer, I’ll truly savor the camaraderie, the vibrant personalities, and the creative banter that echoes through our gaming corridors. Nowhere else have I encountered such infectious energy as in this gaming studio, it’s like a magical realm I never want to leave.
He mentions, ‘I’m prepared to inject my enthusiasm and innovative thoughts into some fresh types of tales within our community.’
