Lord of the Rings Star Shuts Down Possible Return in The Hunt for Gollum

As a longtime fan of the Lord of the Rings franchise, I couldn’t be more excited about the upcoming projects, particularly Andy Serkis’ The Hunt for Gollum. Although it has been quite some time since we last ventured into Middle Earth, the magic and mystery of Tolkien’s world remain as captivating as ever.

In the latest development, another actor has hinted at a possible revisit to Middle Earth in the forthcoming film titled “Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum”. It’s been over two decades since the original Lord of the Rings trilogy concluded in 2003, and the subsequent Hobbit trilogy ended a decade later. However, Warner Bros. Discovery has stirred excitement among fans by continuing to develop projects set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy world. While Amazon is busy with The Rings of Power series, there are several upcoming movies for the franchise enthusiasts, including an animated film “The War of the Rohirrim” slated for release in December, and Andy Serkis’ directed “The Hunt for Gollum”.

Despite the new live-action film being set during the same period as “The Fellowship of the Ring,” original Elrond actor Weaving (who appeared in “The Hobbit”) has ruled out returning to the role in this latest production. Speaking with GamesRadar, Weving expressed his doubts about reprising the character again.

To be honest, I’ve grown tired of that particular venture. For about a decade, I had the pleasure of visiting New Zealand occasionally. During this time, I collaborated with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh on a project titled ‘Mortal Engines’. Unfortunately, this was not successful and didn’t become the franchise they hoped for. Consequently, I believe I’ve had my fill of Middle-earth, and I doubt anyone would ask me to revisit it.

Although Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in Lord of the Rings, shows no signs of wanting to rejoin hobbits and wizards again, other actors from that series have seized the opportunity. With Serkis expressing optimism about AI technology, it’s not impossible that someone might return to Tolkien’s world, even if it’s been a decade since they last visited.

Ian McKellen is Ready To Conjure Up a Return as Gandalf

It’s best not to mention McKellen’s age since he’s keen on reprising his role as Gandalf and possibly working with Serkis in “The Hunt for Gollum.” According to an interview with The Big Issue, the studio is interested in having him back in that part.

The passion for “The Lord of the Rings” continues unabated… All I can reveal is that there might be additional films in production, and if so, Gandalf could feature, with hopes that I may reprise my role. However, no specific details about when or what the script entails have been shared yet. They need to move swiftly on this project.

Sir McKellen returned for the “The Hobbit” movie series, which were produced a decade after “LOTR,” serving as a prequel. At that time, de-aging technology wasn’t as sophisticated as it is today, making him appear older in the films, but it turned out well. As for who might return for Serkis’ upcoming project, it’s still uncertain, but fans would undoubtedly be thrilled if the original cast could reunite should the opportunity arise.
