Lou Dobbs, one of CNN’s original anchors who later worked at the Fox Business channel, has died. He was 78.

I was a devoted fan of Lou Dobbs, the renowned journalist who once graced CNN’s “Lou Dobbs Tonight.” Over the years, he transformed into a conservative commentator known for his hard-line populist views, which eventually earned him a successful stint at Fox. Following his tenure at CNN, Dobbs joined Fox Business Network and anchored “Lou Dobbs Tonight” until its unexpected cancellation in February 2021.

Ten years ago, Dobbs became a regular conservative commentator on Fox Business News. Additionally, he hosted a nationally broadcasted radio show called “The Lou Dobbs Show,” as well as a financial news radio program named “The Lou Dobbs Financial Report.”

Originally from Texas, Dobbs was born on September 24, 1945. Later, he earned an economics degree from Harvard University. In the year 1980, Dobbs commenced working for CNN as their chief economics correspondent and presented the “Moneyline” program as its anchor. However, he parted ways with CNN in 2009 due to controversy surrounding his immigration-related commentary.

Approximately two years ago, he began working for the Fox Business Network. However, his departure from this television station in 2021 was due to his contentious on-air remarks concerning the 2020 U.S. Presidential election and a lawsuit filed by Smartmatic against Fox Corporation. In this legal action, Dobbs was specifically mentioned.

Eventually, Fox reached a court settlement and paid Dominion Voting Systems $787.5 million as a result of that legal action. As an author, Dobbs penned a collection of books, including “Exporting America,” “War on the Middle Class,” and “Independents Day: Rousing the American Spirit.”

In 2005, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recognized Dobbs with an Emmy for Lifetime Achievement in television. The year prior, “Lou Dobbs Tonight” received an Emmy award from the National Television Academy, while Dobbs himself was granted the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award for his exceptional reporting on the 1987 stock market crash.
