As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for fashion and a soft spot for exquisite culinary experiences, I must admit that my heart skipped a beat upon laying eyes on Louis Vuitton‘s temporary flagship in New York City. The Art Deco-inspired building across 57th Street is not just a retail space, but a veritable cornucopia of luxury, culture, and gastronomy.
During a multi-year facelift of Louis Vuitton’s NYC flagship store, which is adorned with trunks, the iconic French fashion brand has relocated its main Manhattan location to a five-story Art Deco-style building directly across 57th Street as a temporary measure.
The brand refers to this location as a “pivotal point in retail, culture, and cuisine.” Indeed, upon entering, you’ll find a vast atrium filled with towering Courrier Lozine 90 trunk sculptures designed by OMA’s Shohei Shigematsu. These structures reach high above the new Louis Vuitton café, chocolate shop, unique culinary experience, and exclusive collections on each floor, almost brushing against the ceiling.
On the first level, you’ll find a range of leather goods, while women’s clothing takes center stage on the second floor and men’s apparel is showcased on the third. The fourth floor houses a chocolate shop and Le Café Louis Vuitton. On the fifth floor, you’ll find exclusive retail lounge spaces and the store’s homeware collections. Notably, throughout all five floors, Louis Vuitton has displayed large murals showcasing some of its significant artistic collaborations, such as those with Richard Prince, Yayoi Kusama, Supreme, Takashi Murakami, and Stephen Sprouse.
The fourth-floor cafe is the first to launch in the United States, and it’s already booked out for two months. French chefs Arnaud Donckele and Maxime Frédéric, who opened the House’s Saint-Tropez restaurant, are behind this latest culinary concept, too. Their menu includes (but is not limited to) lobster and truffle raviolis embossed with the flower Monogram, Damier tartlets filled with season ingredients, Croque sandwiches and LV-ified burgers. Fashion’s foodies will appreciate seeing the label’s logo playfully embedded into practically every dish.
The area includes a primary dining hall, a lounge with a bar, and a cozy nook for reading, seating up to 70 guests altogether. The walls encompass Ian Luna’s overseen library by Louis Vuitton (containing over 600 books), allowing you to make a purchase straight from the shelves while dining; and tables adorned with Louis Vuitton dishware, which can also be bought on the upper level.
The first Louis Vuitton chocolate shop in America is now open. Previously thriving in Paris, Singapore, and Shanghai, Le Chocolat Maxime Frédéric at Louis Vuitton has expanded to the United States, showcasing a variety of traditional chocolate bars, hazelnut truffles, and even musical boxes shaped like Vivienne Westwood, all crafted entirely from chocolate.
The store may be temporary, but it sure looks to make a lasting impression. Take a look inside Louis Vuitton’s new shop in the gallery above, and check out the space for yourself at the address below beginning November 15.
