This year, Lucasfilm announced that the eccentric group of clones known as the Bad Batch will be making a comeback within the Star Wars universe. Originally introduced during the final stretch of the popular Star Wars: The Clone Wars series, this motley band of clones has since forged a prosperous path in the galaxy’s distant reaches. Fans have already witnessed their escapades across three seasons of their own animated series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and are now eagerly awaiting more thrilling tales as they continue to unfold across various Lucasfilm productions.
At San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), Lucasfilm revealed the upcoming space journey of The Bad Batch, sparking curiosity among fans about the potential future of these Clone Troopers within the Star Wars universe, as they ponder the grand scale of plans for this trooper squad in the galaxy.
As a die-hard Star Wars fan attending SDCC, I was thrilled when Lucasfilm Publishing revealed their new comic book series starring the Bad Batch. This marks their triumphant comeback in the vast Star Wars universe, published by Dark Horse Comics.
Michael Moreci’s upcoming four-issue miniseries, titled “Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories: The Bad Batch—Rogue Agents“, is set to launch in December 2025. This story continues to track the adventures of a Clone Trooper squad, as they confront a fresh danger during the Clone Wars.
The story of Clone Force 99 will follow them as they pursue a Separatist scientist’s perilous creation. Initially, this seems like a standard retrieval operation; however, upon reaching the crime site, they discover that they are not alone in their quest to secure the scientist’s research: others are also interested.
During the Clone Wars, when a Separatist scientist along with his hazardous invention mysteriously disappear, Clone Force 99 is dispatched to locate him and secure the device before it gets into harmful hands. However, upon reaching the scientist’s deserted lab, they soon discover that they aren’t the only ones chasing after this inventor, and this mission will prove to be unlike any they have encountered before.
In recent developments, this is the second instance where The Bad Batch has been showcased since their streaming series concluded in May 2024. Earlier this year, fans were treated to another installment of Hyperspace Stories, which trailed the team as they apprehended a perilous ghost agent.
In comic book stores globally, issue #1 of “Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories: The Bad Batch—Rogue Agents” arrives on December 17, 2025. This is the beginning of a four-issue series focusing on the Bad Batch squad. This new comic storyline is part of the ongoing collaboration between Lucasfilm Publishing and Dark Horse Comics.
Will The Bad Batch Ever Return to Star Wars TV?
After wrapping up “The Bad Batch” in 2024, it’s been delightful for Lucasfilm to keep fans engaged with a continuous flow of releases focusing on the legendary Clone Trooper squad. Interestingly, these have stemmed from Lucasfilm’s publishing division rather than directly from Lucasfilm itself.
Despite concluding their solo series, the Clone Force 99 team has yet to reappear in a Star Wars film or television production. However, this doesn’t rule out the possibility of their return in the future.
Viewers may recall that “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” concluded with a suspenseful moment, as young Omega departed to join the Rebellion without her fellow Bad Batch members. At the point of the show’s ending, no formal announcement about a possible sequel had been made, yet it appeared that the story was leaving room for future developments.
In the upcoming year, Lucasfilm plans to explore a specific Star Wars timeline again with the debut of “Maul: Shadow Lord“. This series will center on the popular Sith wielder of two lightsabers, Maul, during the time period between Episodes III and IV
As a devoted Star Wars enthusiast, I must confess that this new series primarily revolves around the enigmatic character, Maul. However, given its strategic placement within the Star Wars timeline, it leaves an intriguing possibility open for our favorite clone squad, the Bad Batch, to make an appearance in some shape or form.
It’s been proposed by some that the Bad Batch, particularly Omega, might make an appearance in the Star Wars franchise at a later stage, potentially as a grown-up soldier serving within the New Republic following the Original Trilogy’s events. If this were to occur, shows like “Ahsoka” Season 2 or “The Mandalorian & Grogu” could be potential platforms where Omega could reemerge.
