As a child of the ’90s, I grew up idolizing two of Bollywood’s most enchanting divas – Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit. Their grace, elegance, and unparalleled talent left an indelible mark on my heart. The tales of their supposed rivalry were always a part of our chatter-filled afternoons during playtime, but hearing about their mutual admiration and respect for each other has warmed my heart.
During the 90s, two of Bollywood’s biggest stars, Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit, were frequently compared, stirring whispers of competition. However, Madhuri has since disclosed her deep admiration for Sridevi, acknowledging that their paths rarely crossed, despite their parallel successes.
Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi were initially planned to act together in Ramesh Sippy’s movie “Zameen” (1987), but unfortunately, they didn’t share any scenes in the film, which ultimately remained unreleased. In a recent conversation with News 18, Madhuri spoke about their careers, expressing that their professional paths never intersected.
Madhuri Dixit-Narayan expressed profound appreciation for the late actress’s talent, noting her achievements in various languages. In her own words, “Both of us held a great deal of respect and admiration for each other. I admired her as an actor because she worked in multiple languages, which was truly impressive, and she found success across all of them. She was also kind to me.
In the movie Pukaar (2000), Madhuri Dixit worked, a film co-produced by Sridevi and Boney Kapoor. However, their professional paths didn’t intersect extensively during the production. Madhuri mentioned that while Sridevi was deeply involved in managing the project, she herself was primarily concentrating on her character, which resulted in minimal interactions between them.
Although they were both in the same movie, there weren’t many chances for them to interact during filming, as she explained, “We didn’t have much chance to chat.
After wrapping up and releasing Pukaar, the actress from Maja Ma shared that she tied the knot and relocated to America, resulting in minimal contact with Sridevi due to this geographical change.
It was noted that Sridevi started working in the film industry from her childhood, and she commended the determination and effort Sridevi put forth to reach her accomplishments. Furthermore, she expressed profound admiration for Sridevi’s commitment and professional career.
For those not familiar with the details, Sridevi was present at the wedding reception of Madhuri Dixit and Dr. Shriram Nene in 1999, which was an important milestone in their relationship.
In terms of her career, Madhuri has recently been seen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 sharing the screen with Kartik Aaryan and Vidya Balan. There are whispers that she might be part of Dhamaal 4, a film directed by Indra Kumar, but as of now, an official announcement is still to come.
