Madonna Limited Series From Shawn Levy in the Works at Netflix

Following some halts and resumptions regarding a biographical film about her life and work, Madonna is opting for the limited series style to narrate her tale instead.

Music legend is collaborating with producer-director Shawn Levy on a potential TV series for Netflix. This project is currently under developmental stages at the streaming platform, where Levy’s production company, 21 Laps, holds an overarching contract.

Netflix declined comment.

The Netflix production has no connection with past attempts to create a movie about Madonna. Initially, Julia Garner was the top choice for portraying Madonna in this film, which had been established at Universal Pictures but ultimately fell through in early 2023. Last year, Madonna herself suggested on social media that she was once more working on this project.

At this stage, it’s unclear if the proposed Netflix series will cover all aspects of Madonna’s life and career, or just a particular segment. As of now, no writer has been officially assigned for the project. However, Madonna herself, along with Diablo Cody and Cressida Wilson, have written drafts for the feature script about her.

Levy’s Netflix portfolio encompasses a variety of productions, such as “Stranger Things”, “The Perfect Couple”, “All the Light We Cannot See”, and “The Adam Project”. He was behind both the direction and production of last year’s blockbuster film “Deadpool & Wolverine”.

Madonna is managed by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Maverick Management, Untitled Entertainment, and Grubman Shire. On the other hand, Levy and 21 Laps are represented by William Morris Endeavor (WME) and Johnson Shapiro.
