MageTrain is a quirky combination of Snake and roguelikes, coming soon on Android and iOS

  • Assemble a magical battalion of mages
  • Nine unlockable heroes at launch
  • Roguelike system inspired by Slay the Spire and FTL

In a refreshing take on the original Snake game, MageTrain is all set to debut next month on various digital marketplaces. Crafted by Tidepool Games, this free mobile game blends auto-battler mechanics with strategic placement, creating a game that’s simple to learn but offers a rich depth of experience. Pre-orders are currently open on both iOS and Android platforms.

Building off the idea found in Nimble Quest, MageTrain expands the concept of managing a line of heroes by adding new characters, dungeons, and a complex skill system. The aim is to navigate a magical train of warriors through perilous battlefields, strategically placing each hero for maximum attack output while skillfully avoiding harmful collisions.

Upon its debut, MageTrain offers nine playable characters, each possessing unique talents that vary depending on their position within the train. Certain characters shine in leadership roles, while others deliver crucial assistance from behind. As you progress, you’ll delve into eight different dungeons, engage with 28 distinct enemy types, and tinker with 30 unique abilities to create potent team dynamics.

The game adopts a structure reminiscent of roguelike games such as Slay the Spire and FTL, featuring a system where paths are chosen. Each playthrough introduces random obstacles, offering opportunities to accumulate gold, bonuses, and enhancements that mold your strategy. Every loss offers an opportunity to learn and adjust your tactics, making each try feel like a fresh journey.
