Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ‘The Bride’ Moves Out of 2025, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Next Movie Pushed to Late September

Warner Bros. is making all necessary preparations prior to revealing their upcoming movie lineup to cinema owners at the 2021 CinemaCon event, held in Las Vegas from March 31 onward.

On Wednesday evening, it was announced that the studio made significant adjustments to its schedule of releases, with the most noteworthy change being the shift in release date for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s movie adaptation of Frankenstein titled The Bride. Originally set to debut on September 26, 2025, it has now been moved to March 6, 2026. In this film, Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley will be sharing the screen. Insiders claim that post-production for The Bride has faced some difficulties.

The studio believes that the movie is ideal for a special event screening, as it would gain from premiering around the start of spring vacations and school breaks. However, this doesn’t mean the film can’t be considered for awards, even with its early release schedule.

In an interesting change of plans, the premiere date for Paul Thomas Anderson’s film “One Battle After Another,” featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, has been shifted from August 8th this year to September 16th, 2025 – originally set for “The Bride.” This adjustment enables a global Imax theater release and provides the studio with time to install necessary projection systems for viewing in VISTA VISION.

According to reports, it appears that the director’s upcoming movie might not debut at the Cannes Film Festival, but its release in late September aligns perfectly with the timing of the autumn film festivals.

Boasting a budget exceeding $130 million, this film marks Anderson’s costliest production yet. Amidst Warners’ film studio undergoing criticism following a series of box office flops, the movie is slated for release. It is rumored to be an adaptation inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel “Vineland”, and it stars Leonardo DiCaprio along with Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Alana Haim, Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro and other notable actors.

Enthusiasts of Zach Cregger, the director behind the movie “Barbarian”, will be thrilled to learn that his upcoming film “Weapons” has been brought forward from its initial release date of January 11, 2026, now set for August 8, 2025. This chilling multi-story horror production boasts an impressive cast including Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Amy Madigan, Benedict Wong and Cary Christopher.

As a gamer, I’m excited to share some updates on my movie calendar! Warner Bros.’s animated film “The Cat in the Hat” is now coming earlier than expected, moving from March 6, 2026, to February 27, 2026. On the other hand, “Flowervale Street,” directed by David Robert Mitchell, has been shifted back a bit, from March 13, 2026, to August 14, 2026. Keep an eye on these releases!

The illustrious ensemble on Flowervale Street features Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, Christian Convery, Jordan Alexa Davis, and P.J. Byrne.

More to come.
